Damn, I forgot who I was responding to. I need to remember to spell things out completely for you so you don't become more confused.

Your gratitude is unfortunately misplaced. Most of these Trump supporters only (marginally) behave here because they are made to by the watchful mods.

Heh, these fellas like to group attack anyone who won't blindly exalt their dear leader. They regularly call us things like "unhinged" and "nuts", but the fact is, if they weren't so afraid of being suspended, any number of them (and Astros, in particular, who has priors in this regard) would have already gone to their time-honored gender-derived blunt inserts where you are concerned.

In the 2016 Political Thread, one of their regulars actually typed out the words that specifically referred to Hillary Clinton as something that rhymes with "shucking bunt". They think the same thing of Pelosi, the Squad, Whitmer, Kamala, and you, as well, when you won't fall into line.

Believe me, the words they (ok, ok, some of them, not all of them) are typing in their responses to you are a whole lot different than the ones they're thinking.

Do I fear the mods? No, but I respect their work, can enjoy the Forum because of it, and don't wish to make their jobs harder.
Do I have to countenance hate speech? No, because I don't hate the people I'm talking to or about (even Trump), so it's not in my internal monologue to be edited as I type.
So how am I able to avoid the name-calling so often directed our way?
It's because I know so many words, the best words, that I can tell you, believe me, and when I use them, it's a beautiful thing.

Best to you and your husband...

Last Des Moines Register Poll just came out ... has Trump +7 which NO ONE expected.

This poll had a tie in mid-September. Odds went up to Trump (-440) after the release of the poll and this poll also has Ernst +4 in the Senate.

IOWA is over and it's making me rethink my Wisconsin money!

Stop laughing!!!
You already had your giggles at my expense today.
One to a customer, man...

...which is not what I'll be telling these trick-or-treaters tonight, if any of them dare brave Newsom's elite commando squads to come get some candy.

I've got a giant bowl here representing all of tonight's pertinent food groups:
the sweet, the sour, the gummy, and the chocotastic!

Every kid gets at least 5 pieces, and that'll go to 10 early if the turnout is light, as we suspect it will be.
California nights like this one make me feel so happy. We'll see how it goes.

I think you have it backwards. Look at the definition and look at the leaders of these states. One is not like the other.

Haha.. Happy Halloween, jd. Not too many kids here today : / .. Even the kid that asked how many and I told him to take whatever only took 2!

What about on your end?

This Guardian article suggests the same conclusion, based on the success of countries like New Zealand and Taiwan and Vietnam, who had short lockdowns or none at all in Taiwan's case.
https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...-covid-control

But the biggest barrier to that in the US is also its biggest problem: a lack of a robust system for contact tracing.

There are multiple elements to this: how slow most coronavirus tests are, disparities in who can access tests and everything discussed in this Pew Research poll.
https://www.pewresearch.org/internet...tles-covid-19/

93% of people polled would quarantine if they received a positive coronavirus test but only about half would be willing to share information about who their contacts with a tracer.

As cases increase over the next few weeks and months, I hope we will start to see states (if not the federal government) emphasize the importance of contact tracing and figure out better ways to get more people to participate in the process, even if (like mask-wearing) they grumble about it on Internet message boards.

Without that...I hope all of you stay safe and healthy this winter.

The biggest barrier in the US is the fact they are 50 countries. It's hard to compare this country to others because each state is different. Round one of lockdowns, people may have been able to survive that. Round two? Going to be a lot harder.

This is getting interesting. The DMR poll is know to most as God; so it's results mean something for the mid-west.

The Never Trump guys are getting nervous. w/ the polling out of AZ recently; there has been a shift toward DJT. It's making me smile.

Glad to see I've firmly entrenched myself in your head. Still playing white knight for that one particular poster, who happens to be banned from this thread?

Fascism, you'll have to explain that. I'll admit, government intervention has been a theme between both parties. I think the better argument is do you support trickle down or trickle up and both require some type of government.

Call it 50 countries or 6-8 regions (plus Hawaii & Alaska) or one country, that doesn't change the scope of the problem.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...ed-by-the-u-s/

Most countries with robust contact tracing programs in place use some kind of tracking or at least a phone app, which obviously wouldn't fly in the US. But there are definitely small improvements that could have happened by now, like more funding for contact tracing jobs and more support for people when they are forced to quarantine due to possible exposure.
