Few bucks? Sure. My livelihood? Nope. It's my job to take care of my family. Not to take care of yours.

Agreed - only awareness I am seeing is that people are gullible and believe the Q nonsense that is seeping into the GOP, from the fringe.

Thank god the greatest generation did not believe like this.

If they did, we would be goose-stepping.

If Americans were this selfish, you'd be speaking german and saluting a fuhrer.

Mighty patriotic of you there.

ETA: Sometimes the best way to take care of your family is to take care of your neighbor. You don't get to pick and choose when you want to be part of a community.

I don't care, it's never been my job to destroy my family to help yours. You can be a decent human being too. We've spent 250 years doing that. But now it's selfish to want to take care of YOUR own family before taking care of someone else's.

If taking care of my family makes me selfish, I'll wear that badge with honor.
Regarding the recession, I watched as both my mother, and my in-laws lost tens of thousands of dollars of their savings a few years back and all of them suffer from it. I'd rather not see it happen to me and my wife.
Call me selfish, I don't give 2 sh!ts.
Will you when I call you stupid for not caring about your life savings?

It's rare, but I agree completely. I will always stand by my kids. I will tell them when they make what I consider bad decisions, I will be disappointed in them, mad at them sometimes, but I will always stand by them.

Who is advocating not prioritizing one’s own family in life? What are y’all even arguing?

Lol, my life savings is safe. Recession-proofing isn't all that hard. My financial house is in order.

If you're not willing to replace your $6 soy latte crapacchino for a 25 cent cup of coffee to better your country, then you do not deserve to be a citizen. Lucky for you, citizenry is given here. If it was earned, you'd be Canadian or something.

Belt-tightening is coming. Deal with it. The choice is not yours to make.

I was about to say a something similar to your ending there... If you read back you'll know Mr. Bama there is not gonna change his tune so it's pointless to continue with him.

Yea, I'm a soy latte crapacchino drinking, Trump supporting 59 year old Iowan. Belt tightening and cheap coffee is part of the reason I have a life savings.
Be better.
On another topic, somebody should tell Biden all of those plexiglass walls he wants installed between every single student in every single school and between every single worker in every single business across America, well, they're made out of you guessed it, petroleum.
You can't make this sh!t up.

Isn't that what we did with the IHME models?

I'm not 100% educated on this and I don't claim to be. This is why I advocate for smarter people than myself in the room.

I think the IHME models are part of the situation, sure. They help define what we are facing and what might happen if we took certain courses of action, is that correct? The folks in that room hopefully considered the models and gave them whatever weight was appropriate.

Unfortunately, some of our leaders listened to the people in that room and some didn't. Some apparently assumed they were smarter than the smartest people we could find. Trump was one that didn't listen. He discredited some of them, even though he picked them in the first place.

Some of our governors listened to some of the recommendations. That's all that happened.

Some of them listened to some of the recommendations. I don't think anyone listened to all of it.

I could be incorrect though.

You're the one who brought up both soy lattes and people being selfish for wanting to put their own families first.

I remember watching TV a couple decades ago with a man that became one of my mentors in life. It was the 80s, so don't judge me, haha. The TV said, "If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the A-Team".

My mentor suggested never to forget that. I never have.

Lol. Soy latte was a metaphor.

And family vs country is not a binary choice. There are degrees. Small sacrifices for one might be worth larger gains for the other. Nobody is advocating destroying your family. You can have both.

This is why I found the post irrelevant. I meant no disrespect.

Fair enough.

If you agree with this statement, we shouldn't be locking down the economy.

I don't think it should be binary. I think we should look for ways to reduce the spread of the disease while coexisting with the climate.

So what happens when the people that are deemed smart are wrong? What happens when their own biases get in the way?

Blame Trump?
