Does this correlate with free agency rumors?

Honestly, if the NBA played zero games and just traded players back and forth for 12 months, the card market would probably explode!

The morning that the Rui to the Lakers rumours started, I listed every Rui card I had, and within 48 hours had sold over $2k worth on nothing more than trade buzz. It was wild but at least I got rid of those cards for better stuff.

Getting way more "steals" than it feels like I should right now. Like 50% early November comps. Have spoken to some friends who are seeing the same thing. Preseason/early season hype wearing off? People spending more of their time and money on the holidays?

I've been expecting the market to gradually decline almost indefinitely, but this sharp dive has been a bit surprising.

That's because you can get those same blasters for $20 online.

If they release Prizm in December, no way you can easily find wax. If they do it in March, there's a chance because Wemby hype might be dying.

My target shelves are filled with everything

Football and baseball sell

But 22/23 basketball does not sell been sitting for months

23/24 guessing will be different with Wemby.

Amazing just a year ago. 10-20-30 grown men would sit in the floor at target on Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm waiting to get a few blasters

the ROI is crap, even at $30.

They're $40 by me and aren't selling at all.

Why spend $30 to bust a box to get a single card that might be in a dollar box. I don't even open cards to sell but when you're lighting $30 on fire to get a holo of Kyle Anderson and a couple rookies that aren't even in the league, it's not fun

The new Prizm draft might be the worst release Panini has ever put out. I bought a few blasters at $30 to hopefully pull a Wemby or 2 but instead found the product loaded with nothing but vets in their college jerseys.

Who wants that product?

Don't fall for it...

Wemby is 2 years younger then Chet, so when you're comparing the two, think about it as Chet now vs Wemby in 2025.

It’s funny, but if we were still in the pandemic pump, wouldn’t Paolo be a $40 base prizm and Chet $30?

That $30 blaster was a steal just 3 years ago.

Even before the pandemic it was fun and possible to open boxes without losing 99.99% of your money.

I love opening packs in general. ItÂ’s fun but of course there should be no expectation of making money or even getting your money backÂ….but Panini has made it so that you get nothing in retail. So much so that thereÂ’s absolutely no fun in opening product anymore

IÂ’m not gonna be spending $500 on a hobby box of something, I just want to be able to go to the store and grab a couple blasters every once in a while and open some packs but thereÂ’s no point.

In the last year I’ve been opening Pokémon. I don’t particularly care about Pokémon itself but open the packs is a blast and the card art is cool.

The way I remember it:

2016: Pull a Simmons and you broke even, Brown or Ingram and you lost but still got something. Pull a Silver of those guys and you won pretty big (for the time)

2017: First year I remember with a great Retail ROI. Tatum, Lonzo, Fultz, Mitchell, all gave you opportunities to make up close to your box with 1 hit. Silvers and better were big wins and grading was easy.

2018: Easy money with Luka and Trae. This is the year things really started to take off. Same script: Rip, grade, and flip... you couldn't lose.

2019: Pure insanity. If you could get your hands on it, it was easy money. The Zion craze was something else. There are now over 22,000 PSA 10 Zion base

2023: Many PSA 9's and 10's, BGS 9's and 9.5's are selling for less than what it cost to just grade them. We are in a junk slab era for modern cards!

EDIT: Ebay search for sold/completed listings of PSA 10 for $20 or less shows more than 60K results! If you add in PWCC weekly and Goldin weekly auction sold listings, it should likely be more than 150K PSA 10's that sold for $20 or less in 2023. We are probably looking at >500K slabs if we add in the PSA 9's, BGS 9's and 9.5's as well.

2023 Prizm isn't out yet, but I'm curious to see how Wemby sells.

Panini won't do it because they care less about maintaining their brand then they do milking it as much as possible, but I would still love if they limited Prizm Silvers to 500-1000 like the early days. They'd feel special again, just like the early ones still do.

Wemby draft base selling for a solid $30 a pop. I'd say $100 floor on Wemby base at release

Might make it fun again to rip.

Although the rest of the class seems to be leaving a lot to be desired so far. Maybe by the time it releases a couple more of these guys will pick it up.

Wemby draft base popped at $50 plus on release. Do you not think that's at least double for regular prizm?

Let's take it a step back.

How are you personally defining release? The first ___ minutes/hours/days....
