I'm not too-too worried about it, if they transition to graded by next Friday I'll deem that acceptable because I am very aware of the backlog situation that SGC has thrust upon themselves. If GemRate is 100% accurate they actually had a good day on 3/21 with 12k cards graded.

Awaiting my results from my first submit before I send in more...I have about 8-10 modern and 5 70s/80s I *may* submit if that special is still going on. I may just submit the 70s/80s in the next few days.
We are aware, but they need to change their turnaround dates. It is about 1 month from shipment arrived to shipped out. Typically SGC made statements about this, but Peter has been radio silent. Does anyone think he is still at SGC or is he being put in another job at collectors?

I don't think Collectors gives too poops about the internal workings of SGC. Peter is likely still there and either pushing to get things done or scrambling for more capacity. He 100% should post an instagram update on the current situation. I expect when this month's gemrate numbers comes out, SGC is going to have a record month.

These companies get cute by not starting the clock until the item is "checked in" to their system, and not when it arrives to their actual facility.

So, in theory, my SGC order which took just under a month door-to-door, actually did meet the 10 business day turnaround listed, but it's incredibly misleading.

They should just change it to 10-15 day turnaround to better reflect the actual current turnaround.

I am on day 12 with no movement. 15 days right now may be the minimum. They should post 15-20 days or better yet, 25-30 days.

As soon as I give SGC a hard time with turnaround times, my 30 card order is graded.

Submitted: 2/24
Delivered: 2/28
Received: 3/6
Graded: 3/24

I'll know by Tuesday (3/18) maybe? As that marks the 10th business day of the order. The current turnaround time is a bummer since they used to be so fast.

I'll keep you posted on this "test card" if this helps in any way.
Is this one still in grading? I skimmed...didn't think I missed the update, but rather it sounded like the total turnaround time has gotten a bit longer lately.

Yes, the turnaround time was just under a month door-to-door, but my test card worked out great. I sent in an SGC 7 that I cracked out and thought was under graded, and it came back an SGC 8. This was a big card too. Huge jump in value.

My entire order had grades that were the same or better than expected. Worked out great.

Peter gave an update. Nice of him to put out a post. As we all know, they got slammed with their specials. March is going to be a monster month for them when gemrate comes out. Specials are going to expire on the 4th. So get your orders in the system now. I have a couple that are going out the door on Thursday. Just have a couple more card to enter in.

Here's a direct link to Peter's announcement:

https://www.instagram.com/p/DHn_9W-MbZO/

This is why I like SGC. When there's a delay or issues that pop up, they address it, and it makes sense. Letting people know when the specials are over (April 4th) is also good info to gauge when things will be back to normal.

He can't say it, but I'm sure he wanted to say, "Listen guys, if you think our turnaround times are bad, just place an order with PSA, and you'll never complain about this again."

I am happy that they addressed it too. They absolutely needed to. I do find it funny he says, "sometimes an influx can come out of nowhere" while also running two specials for three months at the same time lol. How could you not predict that that would increase the volume of submissions? All of these companies have their flaws, but SGC still remains the best, by far, with customer service.

If anyone has experience, Is the “immediate” service level still 1-2 days?

It is very strange that SGC did exactly what we suggested here. Change the turnaround times and have Peter make a video. Seems like people at collectors are watching us here...

Hard to quickly hire in this space if you're not willing to pay up for experienced graders. The SGC local market kind of sells itself, but it's a pricey one.

Time for Collectors to open up that wallet a bit.

The solution to the problem isn't that complex

There are not a lot of experienced graders out there. Training is how experienced graders are produced, and it is a long process.

The solution is very complex for grading companies. Is this demand permanent or temporary? Is it worth hiring more graders and expanding your operations?

The safest thing to do is to have a backlog and keep your business the same size. We also don't have any idea on what Collectors wants to do with SGC. It could be that the view SGC as a training ground for graders that they can relocate to PSA's facilities or as a budget grader. All I know is that this will most likely not end well for SGC with Collectors Universe running the show.

Training graders on ultra-modern material doesn't take as long as you may think. And yes, all major grading companies are always looking to bring in experienced graders that can serve as 300+ cards a day plug-n-plays.

Last I heard the majority of graders at Beckett were seriously entertaining offers.

While I don't see Collectors backing up the bank truck anytime soon to vastly expand the capacity at SGC. I do see SGC continuing to grow as the relationship evolves. Though, perhaps a bit slower than most would prefer.

Collectors now owns roughly 75% of the market share when it comes to grading. That number only drops if you dissolve the SGC brand.

I hope Collectors pumps money into SGC, especially as a vintage collector, but I don't see this ending well.

If I was Collectors, I would rather train my own graders instead of hiring for another company. You would have to not only train them but break them of their grading habits at the previous company. I don't think it would be plug and play.

SGC made my folder for images, so hopefully I get my results today!

Plug-n-play used loosely, but yeah, even experienced graders have to adjust from company to company.

I hope SGC continues to grow. They're a great option for vintage collectors.

Grades popped and my grades were 0.5 to 1 grade higher than my last grader. I will make sure to send his wife or girlfriend a gift card for putting him in a great mood! I wish this grader looked at my 1959 Yogi Berra, it would have been an 8 instead of a 6.5.
