I can see why those bleachers were enclosed from the rest of the ballpark

Notice he only had 148 at bats. The Dodgers would only give him one or two at bats in a game and then they pulled him. They were trying to hide him in Montreal and hoped no one would take him in the rule 5 draft. The Dodgers had given him a 10,000.00 signing bonus, but Jackie Robinson felt there were already too many black players on the team. So, the Dodgers sent him to AAA exposing him to the other MLB teams. It didn’t work as the Pirates saw his talent and took him with the first pick.

Escape From New York seems fitting, based on all the reports I read about people fleeing the city in droves for the suburbs. A relevant riff, given the times we are in.

Tiger Stadium never got the love that Fenway, Wrigley or Yankee Stadium did, but it was a great place for a ballgame and a magical place for a youngster that loved baseball from an early age, or any other fan, I'd imagine. I miss that old place. Comerica Park is okay, but it's not nearly the same.

Love the jk5...glad he dialed back the color explosion a bit. I'll grab one for sure.

It isn’t specifically the 18th, it just was the first year. It is today this year. It is the day in September that each team nominates one player for the Roberto Clemente award. There is no specific connection to Roberto, such as if they did it every August 18th his birthday.

Those are a couple of nice ones today. That Mattingly is pretty wild! JK5 is going to have a fun set.

I want to like both more than I do. The little Clemente standing on the hat is interesting. Eye patch Mattingly is something else.

The Clemente border is the only thing that bothers me, that border should be thinner imo

I may literally be the most patient person ever when it comes to this set, so this question is purely for informational purposes, but has Wheeler started shipping anything yet, or is it too soon?

by my simple math I should be over 30% to have pulled a gold by now, but hasn't happened.

Congrats. I don't ever expect to pull a 1/1 in this set, but it's great that you shared that with us.

This exactly. After summers out there, I would go back to school each year with a more advanced vocabulary, no doubt about that.

Had hoped there would have been a Tigers card in this project, JK5 wouldn't have had to do much to make it look post-apocalyptic. At first glance, Mattingly's face profile looks alot like Kurt Russell.

Meant to post earlier, here is the OMA Mays photo from 1955.

I saw the same thing right away.

Came on to say how awesome I thought JK5’s Mattingly was, only to see the diarrhea comment first. That’s in my brain now, card ruined (not really, it’s still fantastic), but thanks

He incorporated the movie poster into the background. I do wonder if he's playing off of people leaving nyc
