The Yankees would have never even put a trade out there if you hadn't failed. It was a trade, not a free agency signing. You guys were just too cheap and wanted to deduct the amount he was getting paid which he was good with at the time. It was the players association that balked. So you didn't drive anything up, the Yankees just traded for him and paid him what the contract said he was supposed to get.
