I kinda lost the plot now on our pitching stockpile. We cut loose Alexander, looks correct. Ditto Turnbull, looks like a boo-boo.

Gipson-Long out for season? Manning the designated rider up I-75, almost every time so far - I forgot the one day guy last week - what was his name? Who’s next after that guy?

Trading Sale sure worked OK for Boston in that they are still top 5 ERA. (Return value, incomplete). I’m not sure the Tigers have that much depth. I doubt anyone in Chicago disagreed with shipping out Cease this spring. Do we want to climb down to hang out with them?

Crazy that the Tigers are only 2 games out of 3rd wild.card spot. Nice to have Skubal to break a losing streak.

I would assume Wilmer Flores is the 3rd AAA starter if needed. SGL had Tommy John I believe. Keider Montero was who started last.

Thanks. That doesn’t sound deep, though I forgot Flores was already at Toledo. Maybe Brieske coulld go back to starting.

So the low leverage move would be the routine flip of Flaherty in July (that could get us another decent AVG low power Utility guy, I’m sure, hoo boy) and the high leverage move would be Skubal next winter. Would make for a kinda bare cupboard though there are always more reclamation projects that can be put in there. Rock, meet Hard Place, I guess.

The return for Skubal should be incredible, but the trade needs to happen mid-season vice the offseason to maximize value due to teams desperately wanting to win.

In my personal opinion, the Tigers should not trade Skubal.

I distinctly remember a contigent of fans screaming for Leyland and Dombroski have to go. Getting to two World Series is a failure. Those of old timers knew when that door is closed, the Tigers were in for a decade of losing.

Trading Skubal is a bad idea.

Skubal hit 101mph the other day. I hope they make sure to keep him away from playing any of that Guitar Hero video game. That kinda supports the idea of trading him.

I'm just saying if they aren't going to spend money they probably should just get it over with. It'd be better if Chris Ilitch would just sell the team.

They have to decide if they actually want to try to win with Skubal. Of course, that would require being aggressive which Scott Harris has been anything but during his tenure.

I said a while ago I'd have Skubal on the block because there's no way they're gonna sign him long term and that's the clearest way to getting a Major League caliber lineup on the field.

Baltimore has bats out the ass they could afford to trade for Skubal and not miss a beat.

I definitely agree that I would do it before this deadline versus later if that's the direction they choose.

For those advocating trading Skubal, and I totally get the argument, are you trading Flaherty as well? The assumption Jobe is ready to replace one and Manning is brought up for the other? Jobe, Olsen, Mize, Manning next year? Kind of need a pitching prospect in return in their somewhere.

I doubt Ilitch will sell.

I would try to re-sign Flaherty. Only 28 and unlikely they'd get much for him at the deadline.

I don't care about potential holes in the starting pitching staff when they have so many in the lineup. This coaching staff has proven they can resurrect careers if the stuff is still there.

I just wouldn't want them to dilute their pitching strength to a point where it is not a strength only to get the lineup to above average.

I agree with resigning Flaherty unless he’s becomes dominate the next 1 1/2 months.

The only reason I’d consider trading Skubal is it’s the fastest way to gain potentially organizational prospects. Teams will argue he’s had two major surgeries so they’re taking the chance on him.

If there is any faith in the kids (Riley Greene, Colt Keith, Jace Jung, Max Clark) then you've got sign Skubal to a long-term deal. Spend on Skubal while most position players are on team-friendly contract. Signing a FA hitter is almost always a better gamble than a FA pitcher.

I noticed who Skubal’s agent already is on Baseball-Reference the other day. It’s BS, backwards.

He's already been dominant. Tied for 8th in WHIP; 4th in strikeouts per nine innings and 5th overall; tied for 10th in quality stars; ERA at 3.22 and dropping.

This is basically his form before his injuries.

How did Colt Keith get a long-term contract before ever playing in the bigs? Besides his pitiful performance, apparently, he has zero hits against 97 and above.

It’s a trend in MLB right now. I think Keith was only the 6th or 7th to sign a big extension before even the “cup of coffee” (MLB debut) but plenty more have similar deals after little MLB action, like Wander Franco, Corbin Carroll and Julio Rodriguez. To me it seems little different than giving a large contract to a mid-career veteran. Some of these will work, some won’t. Just like draft picks and International signings. Keith’s contract might still work out eventually.

saved two sweeps by winning the last game. That is something I guess. Some bats are waking up a bit.
