Getting closer… Now at 495.

There’s a part of me that doesn’t want Miggy to reach 500 this year, especially now that he’s unlikely to reach 3000 hits in the next next couple months.

The anticipation of both feats (along with the 1800 RBI that I’ve been touting…Does anyone besides me care about that?) would bring him much deserved attention. Chances are that his 500th HR will get lost amidst the pennant chase, Ohtani hysteria, etc.

Yes, Miguel would be at 3,000 hits now if not for Covid 2020 and @ 500 homers last year.

As a Cleveland fan who has watched a lot of his career I'm very excited to see these numbers! I'll be going to as many games as possible anywhere near me to try and see #500!

To celebrate Miggy's game winning RBI tonight, I'll share my partial 2020 Finest Flashbacks rainbow.

Also, MAJOR thanks to badlarrys for the hookup on the regular refractor! Super easy dude to work with! Thanks, man. Also, as a shout out, I took a badlarrys style picture of the cards.

#496 for Miggy. Looking forward to seeing him get 500. It’s a been a rough few years for him, but I think his career as a whole will age well in retirement.

The two opposite shots he hit today place Miggy only 3 oppo home runs short of Jim Thome for career opposite field home runs, Miggy 105, Thome 108. Stats are from Baseball Reference in the last 40 odd seasons.

Hope he can carry this on and take Detroit to .500 and then beyond.

Still likely out of reach, but… 61 hits in 55 games?

I think that will be a 2022 goal for him. I bet the Tigers hope he saves that for next year too. Stretch it out a bit. He still has, like, 8 years left on his contract, right?

Bobby Bonilla is jealous of that deal.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, that the Tigers would for a milestone to come next year. They’d probably sit him on the final day if he were at 2,999.

1 HR to go.

50 hits to go. And doing it with 46 games left in this season is looking slightly less daunting after three hits (so far) tonight.

To this point, he has 84 hits in 90 games, which is .933 hits/game. But he’s been improving as the season progresses, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if he upped his rate to 1.09 hits/game (assuming he plays in all of them). Still unlikely, but possible.

Also…

20 RBI to reach 1800.

Just heard he is in the lineup? I believe he wants to be the only player to reach 2 milestones of this magnitude within the same season.

And to make sure he gets enough AB’s, he’s going to charge the next pitcher who walks him. Just to send a message.

It will be quite a long time before we see the next 3000 hit or 500 HR player.

500 HR's: Cruz at 440 HR. Not sure he will make it. I can see him trying to hang on until he does however. Stanton and Trout might be the next ones to do it.

3000 hits: Cano is the closest.

3000 hits and 500 HR's? Trout?

Nobody else is even really close right now . . .

Yeah I commented in the Trout thread, but its really amazing how nobody is on track for the hitter milestones.

Hits:
Altuve may have best shot at 1724, then Trout at 1419, Machado 1381. I think its a confluence of the shift, guys walking more, and launch angle. There's almost no classic pure hitters anymore.

HR:
Trout and Stanton are most likely if they can stay healthy then Harper and Machado are both at around 250.

A healthy Trout, yes. What has been occurring from the injuries from stealing bases and now his hamstring? It may come down to a motivational choice for one of the wealthiest MLB players ever.

Baseball has hitters who are just as happy to hit a homerun or strikeout. Swing for the long ball at all times. I want every Angels game and Ohtani is HR or K. If he gets a double or triple its because he hit it off the wall

Nelson Cruz is at 440. He’ll be close to 450 by the end of the season, and the way he’s holding up, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he had two more productive seasons in him—which would get him to 500.

Also, Giancarlo Stanton has 330 at age 31.

Altuve, 31, should be close to 1800 hits by the end of the season. I’d bet on him getting to 3,000 this decade.
