Yes, but it takes a god tier level of toughness to put up with someone as psycho as Utah's babe. Gotta give him credit there.

1. Joe Montana
2. Johnny Unitas
3. Tom Brady
4. John Elway
5. Peyton Manning
6. Dan Marino
7. Brett Favre
8. Roger Staubach
9. Terry Bradshaw
10. Steve young

Honestly, you could argue about 5-6 more guys for the last couple spots..otto graham, Tarkenton, Dan Fouts, etc etc.

When all is said and done, Rodgers will end up bumping someone off the list. My cut off for players was 2001. The fact that Peyton, Brady and Brees are still playing AND performing at an elite level is pretty damn amazing. I also tend to favor QB's that can run and gun.

I don't want to turn this into a Brady vs. Montana thread.. But if you don't have them as your 1-2 punch your list is incorrect.

I'll post my top 5 as 6-10 can be interchanged with 20+ QB's..

1 - Brady
2 - Montana
3 - Elway
4 - Manning
5 - Marino

I have no problem putting Montana as #1, but too much controversy surrounds the Patriots and Brady for me to say he is #2. That's just me.

Chuck Foreman. He was the most valuable offensive player during their Super Bowl runs. If it wasn't for Foreman and that defense, Tarkenton would be nowhere close to top 10.

Plays inside. Domes changes things big time. His QB rating drops 12 points when he plays outside.

I don't understand the popular idea that surfaced 15 years ago that Unitas is a top 3 QB. It popped up out of nowhere when he passed. You know who thought Marino was a better QB than Unitas? Don Shula. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about, coaching both of them.

And the rest is how I feel on that day.

Aaron Rodgers should be creeping in to the top 10 in a few years. He's been arguably the best QB in the league for a while now. Not many sustain that level for this long. (I know different era. Just sayin.)
Agree with this, Montana, Brady then hard to not argue the rest in terms of order. Rodgers prob end up top 10 in the end or top 5 if he can grab 2 more?

Well yeah, most QB's ratings drop in a sample that only includes road games.

Wait, what? Johnny Unitas was considered the consensus GOAT for a good bit after he retired and was still in the top 3 long after that. If anything, the idea of him being out of the top 3 is new. I'd also like to see a source for Shula's view. It's an appeal to authority fallacy either way, but I'd still like to see the source.

In terms of pure QB ability and not factoring in rings.. I'll go ahead and take Rodgers over anyone

Jerry Rice admitted to cheating his entire career.

Just saying...

Anyone that doesn't have Brady as #1 is trolling or salty of Brady's dominance.

Even cool joe himself would have struggled against the Seattle D. Joe Montana is an argument for GOAT, but never played any epic defenses like that in the super bowl.

Plus, the difference between Brady and Montana's SB results is, Brady led the game winning drives and his defense ultimately failed to make the stops, while Montanas held up. So lol at the 4-0 over 4-2 argument, which is absurd anyways because making 6 SB's and winning 4 and is better than winning 4 and failing to get there otherwise.

Brady #1.

Personally, I don't think you can compare QBs today to QBs in other eras. Dan Marino would probably have won 3 Super Bowls and had even more insane stats had his receivers had the protection they have today... But, he played in the 80's. I think it's even tough to compare Marino to Favre, mainly because the rules had changed enough at the end of Marino's career versus the end of Favre's career. Brady, in today's game is one of the best. Would he have done as well in an era where he would be piledriven into the ground when sacked, or when he had a few teeth knocked out? Personally, I don't believe so, but that's the problem, there's no real way to compare them. Would Tony Canadeo or Babe Parilli been HOF QBs in today's game?

Personally, I feel if you are going to do a top 10 list, then it has to be by era, because otherwise you're doing a disservice to those that played at times where QBs weren't featured (and yet still did amazingly well). As such, we should do pre-merger, post-merger to the offensive rule changes of 1978 (and maybe a bit after that as well), then from the 78 rule changes to Free Agency in 93, then 93 to the last major offensive rule change, which was what, around 2004? I can't remember that bit at the moment. But to try to compare Otto Graham to Steve Young isn't fair to either of them

And Brady won three with fully inflated footballs.
