I am enjoying my second hammer and sickle icon right now. Very nice smoke for the money.

On a side note, I am having issues getting my new humidor up and running and keeping 70/70. The

Did you season it? You should season it and wait a few days before filling with cigars if it's a new humidor. What type hygrometer are you using. Mine fluctuates between 65-68 using a calibrated digital hygrometer. How is your RH acting? I like cigars in the 65-66 RH range, I think they smoke better.

I had a montecristo media noche a few weeks ago and it was delicious. They are a very good brand.

I have not added cigars to it yet. I prepped it with distilled water. My hygrometer is Hygroset 2 Digital. I re-calibrated it tonight in hopes that I can get this squared away. My RH was running in the 72-75 range prior to the re-calibration. It is just frustrating.

When my new humidor is up and running I am going to order some montecristo #2 torpedo. I am debating between 10 and a box but the 10 will probably prevail since the cost difference on a per stick basis isn't huge.

I'm not sure where you get your stuff from, but cigar.com has very good prices. I've made several orders with them and all have been great.

May have used to much water when seasoning it. After you calibrate, see how it acts with it in there. You may need to leave your humidor open for a few hours. I find myself taking my humidifier out from time to time as it has been really humid around here lately and my RH was creeping up to 71%. The hygroset 2 is what I'm using as well, did the salt test to calibrate and all is good.

I am currently looking at 70 degrees, 66 RH. I might leave it like this for a day to ensure stability before putting sticks in.

do you still have your humidifier in? it may take a few days to regulate but mine flucuates sometimes. the key for me is to not let it get to high or low. remember, the more you open it the less it will regulate.

just make sure its staying between 60-70 and you will enjoy the smokes. it will change when you add the sticks as well since they hold and release moisture.

The humidifier that came with it sucks so I am using one of those crystal sticks. Are you familiar with these? It is my understanding that I leave it in there.

Is 72/64 workable in totality you think?

You should experiment with humidity in a small humidor.with replaceable sticks and find your ideal.percentage. I prefer 62-65%. I haven't opened my humidor or added propylene glycol in probably a year and it has perfect stability.

I just use a cheap sponge humidifier and.propylene glycol. I have used bourbon in a small.humidor. A former supervisor swore by Madelaine crystals. I've never used them though.

The million dollar question is can you get Cubans in the US of A? I know I can get Absinthe mailed in, but can I get Cuban Cigars mailed in? I am unsure if the embargo was loosened in any shape, way, or form. Might be a stupid question, but I have been craving a nice Punch-Punch the past couple of weeks.

I know of them but I just use the sponge. Your smokes will be fine at that level. As you can see, some prefer them a touch drier in the low 60's and that's perfectly fine.

The best Cuban cigars makers left after Castro took power and nationalized the industry. They settled in tampa, miami, hondurus and Nicaragua and continued their traditions. The real Cubans I've had that were given to be directly from Cuba were not impressive. The Cubans you can.get on cruise ships and Mexico are likely all counterfeits. Aged cigars are better, but I don't know how good pre Castro cigars would be today. The power of the Cuban cigar is likely gone for good and remembered in name only.

The interesting part is how trademarks will be handled in trade is allowed. The US does not honor Cuban trademarks, thus all the traditional Cuban cigar named are now branding cigars outside the island.

Absinthe is sold at the liquor stores in Florida. The legality changed last decade. I thought it tasted terrible.

I put a cheapie Nat Sherman in last night to see how it would play.

This morning it read 70/ 61 RH.

I suppose my question now is how do I retain these levels. My first humidor was well seasoned since I grabbed it from someone who had been using it. This one has been ornery anyway.

I recalibrated my hydrometer today using the salt test. It is in the humidor now reading 74/70. It looks like I am fine with RH. My humidor is in my basement. The temp in my basement is a very steady 70-72. Does anyone have any tips on how to lower the 74 temp in the humidor?

Only way is to change the ambient temp. But you're fine as long as you stay under 80 degrees. Some people use wine fridges in really warm climates.

I appreciate the advice. I cant really lower the temp by too much. A lot of room in this basement and the temp in the basement as a whole is around 70. Good to know though. I dropped the humidor to the floor for the time being to see if that will make a difference or not (it was previously on the top of my desk, about 5 feet or so in the air).

I got a little curious at the smoke shop today. I tried a Tatiana honey. Another cheapie. It was under $4 and I wasn't expecting much. It was as smooth as the day is long. I would definitely try again as I grabbed another.

I am also preparing for some good news and grabbed a nat Sherman 1930. Not top shelf but certainly a high quality smoke.

I really hope all you guys that smoke cigars know cigars aren't good for you but choose to do anyways, because at least you're informed of the risks and choose to be daring instead of not knowing they're not healthy and being clueless as to what the dangers are. If it's the latter, we need cigars to be included in the anti-cigarette commercials. Don't take it personal, but my mother nearly killed herself when she smoked cigarettes back in the 70s and 80s, luckily she stopped but the damage had already been done, her lung capacity is at 30-35% and she struggles walking up inclines, and gets exhausted quickly.
