The kid who caught the first 14 innings pitched the last 3 innings too...and then he pitched 7 innings in the second game that day...

Pitch count isn't the problem.

The pitchers who are most susceptible are the ones who have been throwing sliders/curveballs (breaking pitches) for a long time.

The problem is kids throwing curvs when they are 10! I used to pitch and my arm would hurt after throwing curvs and sliders through my 20s. All that wear and tear catches up to you.

You can throw a lot of pitches zags long as they are all fastballs and change ups.

Might want to add Andrew Cashner.

Our ol' A's stud Mark Mulder on TJS.. he makes some solid points, esp. that it's always been the pitchers with hard/high-velocity breaking balls that get hurt -

Why should a team not monitor a young pitcher's workload? Mark Mulder on The Turn - 101Sports.com

I actually don't think pre-emptive TJ surgery is out of the question at some point, perhaps for certain types of pitchers likely to need it. I read an article about this but forget where. I wonder where that would fall in PED type discussions though since it is not completely dissimilar.

Jonathan Loaisaga isn't having Tommy John surgery. He's having the same surgery Ohtani had this past off season.

Rewind the clock and go back to the old times. A great pitcher coming up through little league and high school doesn't need to over tax his arm. Clemens played different sports and kept his arm fresh.

I think year round travel ball at such a young age is leading to this.

If you reply with...."last one on eBay sold for this"...then you should have bought it on eBay.
