Haha, he's still a good player, but it isn't that big of a surprise IMO.

Nobody thought he would have the year he is having this year. He is a big part to why the Yanks are in first place after all the injuries.

I think the biggest surprise in a sense of negativity is the Boston Red Sox. I never would've predicted them shipping away agon, crawford, and beckett and being 12 games below 500. Even after the tension last year this year was a complete fail for the sox.

They aren't really "in first" they are tied with the O's and they are 24-25 in their last 49 games, and if the Yankees don't start winning, since they are one game or half a game out of the playoffs, they will be golfing with the Red Sox this fall

Trevor Plouffe (prior to the thumb injury) or Josh Willingham.

A name no one has mentioned and probably no one has noticed is amongst the league leaders in home runs and RBI in the National League:

Adam LaRoche.

If anyone tells you they knew he was going to hit 28 homers (which has him tied for 4th in the NL) with 90 RBI (also 4th overall), ask them to predict the winners of all NFL games this weekend.

Plenty of folks have picked it up after Vottos injury, but Todd Frazier has been pretty good

RA Dickey for me. People knew Sale, Trout, etc. could be good... Here is a guy nearing the end of his career who has suddenly become an ace. Weird. Even stranger than the sudden Cliff Lee resurrection years ago.

I sure as hell did not expect Roger Clemens to be pitching....

I did not expect Adrian Beltre to be doing what he has lately.
I know Josh Rutledge has played under 50 games at this point but, he is hitting .331 at this point.

Also the Royals as a team, I know they arent gonna be making it to the post season but they have butler and gordon in the top 5 in hits, gordon leading the AL in doubles and all what they are going to need is pitching to be coming close to the post season in the next few years. Oh ya and they got Wil Myers.

Bryce Harper. The hype was there, but where are the 79000 homeruns, 1 million R.B.I.'s and a .965 batting average.

Dickey 100%. Trout definitely exceeded everyone's expectations and whoever said Jeter had a good point too. Even as a Yankee fan, I though his .310-.320 days were behind him.

Overall, though, it's gotta be Dickey.

Dickey for sure. Willingham has been about the only pleasant surprise for my team this year.

Lincecum...

Everyone knows he is declining but I don't think anyone was expecting it to be this bad this quickly...

I don't know how the answer can't be overwhelmingly Mike Trout. He struggled mightily last year when called up (expected) and I dont think anyone thought he'd be putting up these type numbers at 20.

Tom Milone 11-10 3.94 ERA 118K as a rookie. In a year when Mike Trout isn't a rookie chasing the MVP, Milone would be a top contender.
