This would be good and should've been done a few years ago when original 6 teams like montreal and the hawks were deeper in their rebuilds.

I haven't seen any other releases, but the print run for card #2 of McKenna's first goal was 5641, significant drop from the first one.

Based on the print run it looks like roughly 1 in 73 will be a non-base of some sort. Mine are set to get here Wednesday, and even with ordering 40 I'm likely to get all base. Been pre-selling the base to try and offset some of the cost.

I think the value of this card will go up a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember a major card of a college hockey player ever being made, especially by Topps.

That’s because this was literally the first season they allowed CHL players to play in collegiate. Unless you get a parallel don’t really expect to make your money back now or in the future. Not trying to be harsh but it’s funny everyone is so optimistic their first Topps Now buy, then if they get all base and realize those go for less than they did on Topps site they vow to never buy Topps Now again and it’s stupid lol actual bowman releases such as football are an afterthought once NFL stuff hits, a print-to-order, non-pack pulled collegiate hockey card will be nothing once NHL stuff hits. His Team Canada and CHL stuff will be nothing which is argue is a step above this being pack-pulled. I buy a good amount of college hoops Topps Now, and it's definitely something that you either buy to keep the base card (my hoops are always 1 card of Illinois stuff for that reason) or something you flip quickly.

Selling the base simply reduces the downside, but will not cover costs by any means. It's a dice roll that honestly has better ROI than most hobby boxes, especially when print runs aren't as high.

I agree 100% that 99% of the Topps Now stuff is garbage. I see this as a very different kind of avenue, especially since its Collegiate Hockey and the first of its kind. Will these become less valuable when he gets drafted and has NHL cards? Yes, they will but as of right now there is a market for them until that happens. Gavin will be known as the kid who broke the system of Minor Hockey to become the first to get a lucrative NIL deal in the sport. If Penn State wins the Frozen Four this year these cards will boom in price.

I know zilch about hockey, but threw a couple Topps Now rolls on the Gavin Mckenna #2 card, and ended up hitting a relic auto redemption.

My understanding is he's a favorite to go 1-1 in the upcoming draft. Looks like he already has some cards from junior hockey on ebay. Is this something I want to move ASAP because he's in a college jersey? Or wait until the draft?

I would think moving quickly to capitalize on the hype of something new in the hobby might be the best bet. After the initial rush I the value will hold relatively steady until NHL cards arrive or if he goes nuclear for PSU (so far very good, but not otherworldly for them).

They are indeed. They are always glossy, a fairly inflexible card stock with the topps logo holograms across the back. And they tend to stick together a bit too.

Are their rules that Topps has to follow? Are they only able to produce cards of guys who have not been drafted? If that is the case, then I can understand why it hasn't been done yet as a good majority of the stat leaders have been drafted.

My guess is they signed McKenna and thought that would be all they need. He hasn't been bad, but he hasn't been great either.

The print runs for the first two are pretty low compared to other sports, so they may not think its worth pushing more out right now too.
