Hilgenberg is not in yet due to Bears Bias. They have so many players from the 1985 Super Bowl team in already. But Hilgy had 7 straight pro Bowls, 2 X 1st team & 2 X 2nd team All Pro honors. He was the rock of that Bears O-Line that dominated throughout the 80's.

Not sure about Kreutz. He was really good, but you have to compare him to other HoF Centers, and his resume is pretty light comparatively. All the other OL on that All-Decade team had multiple AP1's, and six total. He had one and an AP2. Jeff Saturday had an additional AP1, same number of PBs and won a Super Bowl, but he didn't even make the cut.

I get it. I think they're comparable players. I just don't think it bodes well for his chances when there's a guy with a slightly better resume who's not being considered, at a position that's seen two guys inducted who have played a game in the past 35 years.

No one cares about tackles though. Jessie Tuggle and London Fletcher come to mind. Getting 6.5 sacks at age 40 with the falcons is HOF worthy though.

I would think it will be an offense heavy class. The defense list (especially at linebacker and defensive backs) only should have a couple to make the next cut. Whereas you got multiple in every offensive position (just one TE).

The 2018 and 2019 team that Mahomes absolutely dominated on was the same team that Alex Smith didnt dominate on. If Alex Smith gets in is there some other REAL Hall of Fame that good players like Mahomes will go into? None of this makes logical sense and most players on this list were average at best.

First list of 128 or more less the eligible players. Alex Smith didn't make the new cut down list of 52 players. The Qbs that made it were Brees, Manning, and Rivers which feels right. There are still some on the 52 which I don't think have any chance, but that list will be cut in half again and those should be purged out.

The 128 list is the same as the baseball HOF ballet. There are first time players put on the list every year who won't get any votes. It is a nod to a respectable career.

2016 the Chiefs went 12-4, drafted Chris Jones & Cheetah. And had 9 players in the NFL Top 100. 5 All Pros and 7 Pro Bowlers. Smith had 3500+ yards in 15 games.

2017 the Chiefs went 10-6, drafted Hunt. Smith was 9-4 before they sat him as their playoff spot was locked up. They had 6 players in the top 100. Including Smith. Smith tossed for over 4,000 yards, 26 TDs 5 INT and a rating of 105 in his 15 games.

2018 Smith was traded. Not saying Mahomes isn't good, as he is great. But the Chiefs already had pieces in place to win. It just all started clicking by the time Patty Cakes was tossing the ball.

Chiefs were a playoff team for years under Smith. They were winning their division and he was putting up great numbers. His last year with them, he made the Pro Bowl and lead the league in passer rating. It doesnt make him a HOFer. But it does show Mahomes didn't take a trash team and make them good. He took an already great team under Smith, and made them better.

mjekase Member Join Date: Dec 2021 Posts: 556	Not sure about Kreutz. He was really good, but you have to compare him to other HoF Centers, and his resume is pretty light comparatively. All the other OL on that All-Decade team had multiple AP1's, and six total. He had one and an AP2. Jeff Saturday had an additional AP1, same number of PBs and won a Super Bowl, but he didn't even make the cut.

The defense list (especially at linebacker and defensive backs) only should have a couple to make the next cut. Whereas you got multiple in every offensive position (just one TE).

If Alex Smith gets in is there some other REAL Hall of Fame that good players like Mahomes will go into? None of this makes logical sense and most players on this list were average at best.
