Good list, with most of my favorites, but he elevated everything he was in.
I'll add:

Poseidon Adventure
March or Die
Bonnie & Clyde

and his deft comic turns in The Birdcage and Young Frankenatein.

Rest in peace to Gene, his wife, and the dog.
Mr. Hackman was truly among the greatest at his craft.

I have never seen The Birdcage. I should probably remedy that one of these days

It's a truly funny film. I still quote Nathan Lane when he screams and says he pierced the toast to this day.

Default RIP Gene Hackman

He’ll probably start a wave of big name actor passings. So many of the greats of my movie era(1970-2000?)are around 80 years old and many more just below that. It’s kinda like rock n roll I guess except that McCartney and Keef are freskshow in that they can still perform at all in their 80s.
Anyway back on topic.. a few years before he retired he made a little Mamet written heist movie called Heist with Danny DeVito, Sam Rockwell Ricky Jay and Delroy Lindo. I love this movie.

Reports saying bodies were found "mummified" with pills all over the place?

Very strange.

Thumbs up

Yes RIP to a great actor.

'Mississippi Burning' should be required viewing in schools.

Thought he was best in Unforgiven but so many great roles.

I love him in Royal Tenenbaums when he argues with Danny Glover in the kitchen. Hilarious.

No one is mentioning how young his wife was. I'm talking about the shame of her passing in their low 60's, not the difference in their ages.

Best case scenario for what’s been reported would be that she saw he had fallen(died) and was too in love to go on without him and possibly offed herself with the pills found around her.
Yes, sad indeed for someone her age to die, especially self induced , but it happens a lot it seems.
No one except those close to them are aware of the relationship dynamics involved, I’m just hoping there’s nothing more sordid or sinister that comes out. Id rather his legacy be based solely on his amazing career rather than some lurid details about his death.

Had the pleasure to meet him on the set of Hoosiers back in the 80's. Very nice man.

Both tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning. The last noted event on his pacemaker was 17 February, so he may have been dead for 9 days before being found.

That’s weird that his three children go that long without speaking to him.

Young compared to a 90 year old. But it's still elderly/retirement age. She clearly didn't die of natural causes but if she did it certainly wouldn't be shocking.

Also weird that they are telling everyone it's carbon monoxide poisoning and they are all out to lunch the same day looking very happy. They are probably happy they'll finally be getting their inheritance and weren't expecting him to live as long as he did.

Let’s hope it’s not that. But we’ve seen it so many times.

Last I seen/read..as posted..last event on his pacemaker wad the 17th..

There were no physical markings on either bodies, and they both most likely "fell"

As far as the pills..they were identified for high blood pressure and thyroid conditions

Just caught Gene in "Night Moves" from 1975, which I'd never seen.
In it, he's an 40ish L.A. private eye who goes to New Mexico, then the Florida Keys to return a teenage girl to her stepmother who hired him. Gene does the job and repairs his own marriage while he's at it. Almost could have ended it there.

Instead, because this was mid 70's "noir", the last reel sees the girl he saved possibly murdered. His successful investigation of that ends up with all others involved dead, and Hackman shot in both legs, bleeding out as the boat he's on is spinning in an endless circle, which is the image the movie ends with.

Terrific acting, as usual. It also features a young James Woods and a very young Melanie Griffith.

Haha, no spoilers left on 50 year old movies, brah.

And he ends up in a dress for those who've never seen "Birdcage".

If it was too painful for her to go on, why was her body found in an entirely different room and not next to the husband she adored so much?

Arakawa was 65, much younger than Hackman but hardly young. It’s possible she panicked and suffered some kind of cardiac event herself after her husband collapsed.

Then don’t assume it was suicide especially when no investigation has yet been completed. Even if Arakawa taking her own life seems romantic in a Lifetime movie sort of way, that would mean that a dog owner simply left her dogs to die.

As far as Hackman’s children are concerned, no mystery here at all. The lack of contact is an indication that the wife was saddled with 100% of the responsibility for caring for her elderly husband. I’m sure the adult children were all too happy to assume that someone else had everything under control and didn’t need any help. It’s generally how one person in a family gets stuck caring for an elderly person. Do I sound bitter? Let’s just say I’m all too familiar with this scenario.
