This set has just finalized in my mind that I will not be buying any 1992 MM Platinum.

I didn’t think anything could surprise me as Upper Deck winds down its Marvel license but this is pretty darn unbelievable.

Probably too early to real solidly confirm much about print run/configuration, but as others have been throwing things out (including one of the sellers claiming it’s the smallest print run ever) I will throw out another bit of my opinion.

I believe the 4 tier system will still be in place it’s just not specifically called out on the information we have so far.

If we assume the tier 1/2 base and tier 1 variant cover are 1 per pack as noted by the average pack hits on the solicitation and then tier 3/4 base and tier 2/3/4 variant cover are part of the “chase/inserts” the math works out to basically mirror the MM 22 print run.

(36 * 1999) + (27 * 1499) + (36 * 1499) packs / 12 per box / 12 per case comes to around 1155 cases which is right in line with MM22 print run estimates I’ve seen.

Spideyhits is interviewing Grego tonight at 8:35 ET. Very interested to see if he can shed any more light on the product and maybe give a few more sneak peaks of the art. I am really digging this dudes work I'm seeing online.

Default 2024 Marvel Masterpieces - Nahuel Grego

I mentioned this in the topic about UD losing the Marvel license. It’s a shame so many sets are being released chaotically as the Marvel license winds down. There’s been a glut of Marvel product the last two years at least but all these sets coming out one after another during Q4 2024 makes it impossible for collectors to keep up.

2024 Marvel Masterpieces should’ve been a highlight of 2024. Instead, thanks to pandemic delays and a rushed release schedule, it feels like just one more Marvel set among too many Marvel sets. It’ll be the third Marvel Masterpieces set released this year and the fourth since last August when MM23 came out. Two are reprints but still. That’s wild.

UD will make a lot of money in a relatively short amount of time. Maybe collectors don't wanna buy Topps stuff right off the bat because of the UD glut.

Could all be on purpose!

I think it is light on the boxes.

As we have been seeing 41K boxes. Just curious.

It's amazing how contract law and money are so motivational.
If I had a signed contract paying me $1 for every McD chicken nugget I could shove down my throat, but only for the next thirty days post-signing, you can bet I'd eat nothing but McD chicken nuggets til the end of the contract.

I saw 41k boxes mentioned but I have no idea how that number was calculated. Seems way too high in my opinion, but we’re all working on limited information here and making assumptions.

This is crazy, the 2 pieces they have in the promo image are great, hope the whole set it like that, but my god I dont think the market can handle the amount of high priced releases atm

Default 2024 Marvel Masterpieces - Nahuel Grego

I think the most basic way to estimate is from DA’s pack hit expectations. As mentioned above it comes out to like 13.8k boxes. Although they are saying lowest print run of any modern MM, that’d technically not be correct as MM16 was just slightly less. (It does depended on those pack hits being accurate). Either way this appears to be right on par with the other new MMs.

One thing that I dont get is why change the canvas gallery scheme again. It’s even more confusing if green are /25 and red are /10, when green was just /10 and red /149 last set. Continuity collectors have to be rolling their eyes. So down the road when shown something like a red canvas gallery, one has to pause a moment and think, “which year set was that again? Oh it’s a 2024 red. It’s real good then”. Should have just kept the same scheme since 2016.

It's going to suck to be these distributors. I doubt a lot of this gets bought up, so they'll be sitting on the inventory for a while.

I pre-ordered 1 box, more than likely will keep it sealed. If prices drop on these I might buy more to open.

I don’t expect this to drop much like MM Platinum, 14k boxes vs 160-200k boxes. Right now MM22 sealed boxes are still holding around $750-850.

I think this product will do great based on the quality of the art and assuming UD doesn't phone it in like they did with MM92P. People have had a little bit of time to recover from the Flair-FU Wolverine-MM22-Metal Avengers onslaught and MM92P shouldn't be sucking up anyone's hobby dollars with the the terrible value proposition.

Mostly wishful thinking on my part haha, banking on everyone being distracted by the deluge of products hitting the street.

I mentioned the 41k boxes, but it’s actually an incorrect calculation. This is based off DA avg pack hits.

“Pack Hits: (On Average)
- [1] of the following: Base Set - Level 1 #'d to 1,999, Base Set - Level 2 #'d to 1,499 or Variant Cover - Level 1 #'d to 1,499
- [2] Insert/Chase Hits”

(1999 x 36) + (1499 x 27) + (1499 x 36) =166,401 inserts

This would mean 166,401 total packs. 12 packs per box = 13,867 boxes.

I cant see it mentioned anywhere here but I read that he confirmed that he only did a total of 90 paintings and battle spectras aren't mentioned in the hits so looks like they have been excluded from this set. Also likely means that the Gallery cards wont be different images assuming the base set is still 90 cards - or they are changing the base set make up, they do only mention tier 1 and 2 so maybe they have

I thought I heard 99 paintings in the Spidey Hits interview. Nahuel did another interview and I believe it was translated as "more than 90 paintings" there. So I am still hopeful that the gallery will be unique art, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

After the way 92 Platinum went I think I'm good on any more Upper Deck Marvel.
