Topps dynasty - on card patch autos as close to upper deck premium products that topps has ever gotten.

Flagship, Heritage, and Stadium Club. I like opening 18+ packs and getting a bunch of cards. With Flagship you always have an outside chance of pulling a somewhat iconic card which is always fun.

There was something about Upper Deck’s design language on a lot of their sets that Topps and Panini just can’t seem to get right. They certainly had some misses but their hits were HITS.

The Topps Baseball set because it gives the most comprehensive look at the 780 players in MLB every day. I don’t 100% complete/keep/binder up a set every single year, but always take a substantial look at the set.

Probably an unpopular choice, but I really like Topps Archives. It gives me the nostalgia of Heritage, the SPs and SSPs of flagship, on-card autos, most everyone in the RC class, and unique chase cards (Sandlot autos, etc).

Archives fan favorite retired autos are great if you want an auto card with full career stats on the back (depending on the design year of course).

My favorite modern products to buy singles of, I can't afford to rip these products.

Topps Chrome Cosmic
Bowman's Best Need to bring back Atomic's in 2024, hated that they weren't in 2023)
Finest Flashbacks (2023 was super watered down, they need to make 2024 more like 2020 & 2021)
Stadium Club Chrome
Topps Chrome Black

My favorite products to rip
Heritage (still waiting for 2024 price to come down)
Allen & Ginter

Topps Pro Debut is my favorite recurring product to rip.

Bowman's Best used to be spot 2 but pricing...

I like pretty much all of the Bowman/Topps main releases.

But different products pop up for me in different years...

2020 Finest Flashbacks
2021 Topps Japan and Topps NPB
2022 Ben Baller (I know, I know, I'm a sucker for the black refractor base) & Cosmic
2023 Topps WBC & Chrome Platinum Anniversary

I pick up singles when I want but I love the ripping and these have all been my most fun rips.

I used to love the old format of Bowman Sterling, but now it's just alright.

I also love Topps Pro Debut, especially since they added Chrome a few years ago. Great amount of variety & parallels & you can generally make a master set in 1 case of Jumbo.
It's great because you can get the top prospects at a reasonable price.

My dad did the same for me way back when I was around five years old. I started getting them myself after I went off to college. To this day, it's the only card product I buy (although I do get the Update collection as well).

All that to say, congrats to you for the birth of your child, and great job to you for creating something that your son will enjoy the rest of his life.

Unpopular Opinion but i really like Signature Series Retired. I find it unique, some of the card choices are truly interesting. Always on card and I imagine some of those ballplayers get a trip having to re-sign some crazy cards.

I was a fan, early on, of Definitive, but the designs of late have been lax. Actually a lot of designs of Tier One, Museum, Diamond Icons over the past 3-4 years have been real lazy.

2020-2022 Stadium Club Chrome.

The refractors in this set just hit different for me than in Topps Chrome and the inserts really pop. I've enjoyed the challenge of building the refractor sets and I'm sad that this set was discontinued.

Bowman / Bowman Chrome / Bowman Draft: The breaks are fun, because you get on-card autos and beautiful refractors. It's also fun, because you don't know what the future potential is for the cards. I also love Bowman, because it is the gift that keeps on giving. Years later (sometimes as much as 7-8 years) after breaking the product a player who you thought nothing of at the time gets hot in the big leagues and all of a sudden their card that was near worthless at the time you broke it is now a great find in your stash! As a collector, it is always fun looking at a players 1st Bowman many years later to see how young they looked, to remember when they are prospect, or even seeing them in a different team's uniform before they were traded to your team. Bowman all day and it is not even close!

I’m wondering if it’s a design team issue, perhaps east coast versus west coast and old school versus contemporary chic.

Upper Deck was able to maintain classic designs with a modern twist and when they hit, you are right, they just did it right for eye appeal and attractiveness.

I’ll call it a west coast thing.
