There was some chatter about this elsewhere. Someone is clearly trying to pump the market on those and snag some unsuspecting buyers.

There are some insane prices on ebay for those right now.

Personally I kind of lump Megacracks in with the Leaf, Futera, Wild Cards of the sports trading card world. I think I pull more solid clumps of material out of my vacuum cleaner than however those cards are produced.

I am not a fan of Megacracks either, but I think it’s meaningful when one considers what collectors widely regard as Messi’s most significant rookie card and the price a PSA 10 commands. An officially licensed La Liga product from Panini is not comparable to the likes of Leaf and Futera.

How can you conclude the buyer way overpaid if there wasn’t another one available for a lower price? If you mean from an investment perspective, I agree that this likely won’t end well for the current buyers/speculators.

The one before it went for over 1700, and the one before that went for around 1300 I believe. Recent sell price data is certainly one factor that goes into determining a card’s valuation, but by no means is it the only one.

For me, the most questionable aspect is the disparity in pricing between a PSA 10 and a PSA 9.

I would avoid that card altogether. Doesn't make sense that it goes for as much as it does when you can get a better looking card in a PSA 10 for a fraction. The Messi comparison is stupid but you get enough of a herd to believe it and it's probably part of the reason that card appears to be selling for so much.

Id still wager there is some funny business going on before assuming the same set as the messi RC is the driving factor.

I havent been in the hobby long but it with a bit of price and pop research it's easy to see some major red flags. It's just far too easy to pump prices like this for a few people with bad intentions....and it happens ALL THE TIME. Some of the shill bidding sellers are clearly not trying to hide what they are doing, because there are no potential implications.

I love Yamal the only issue is how many RC 1/1's does he have across Panini/Topps? Like half the Mbappe RC's don't even have 1/1s so it's a lot to risk on the National Debut

Look at how off-center that card is - note the size of the red bars on the lower sides. Once you see it, you cant unsee it. Yet PSA gave that a 10. It's embarrassing how bad PSA's consistency is for being the "market leader." One would think that they would at least want to ensure that these high profile cards that a lot of people will get eyes on would be correctly graded.
