Facebook, Reddit, and Discord are going to be the most active spots for Magic discourse these days. I'm sure there are some forums/message boards out there, too, but I couldn't recommend any off the top of my head.

There doesn't seem to be much interest on BO these days in the game itself or the Magic market.

Part of the problem is that these Secret Lairs are most appealing to people who haven't played MtG in a long time, and by extension the people who aren't already "plugged in" to communication platforms. Actual Magic players are far less interested in these kinds of releases by and large.

My unsophisticated observation is that many enfranchised players hate the new direction that the game is taking, especially since it was just announced that these new sets would be playable in the 'Standard' format, which felt like a line that wouldn't be crossed. Having said that, the online Magic community thrives on drama and there has been an existential threat to the health of the game of some variety for the past 30 years.

I don’t do Magic, but this release looks awesome! Do you guys think the value is there to buy and hold? Could these be desirable down the road?

I can't think of a Secret Lair that didn't at least hold value.

Assuming you can actually get something from this drop, it will undoubtedly do well in the long run.

I just bought the foil bundle, sucks about missing out on the bonus card, but I'm happy I got the set.

Someone said that the Spider-Man set will be print to demand but I thought Wizards said going forward they weren't going to do that and that sets would have a ceiling for print runs, hence why Fallout and other sets have ballooned in price. Some of those same people said this Secret Lair drop would take forever to sell out but only took about three or so hours.

Those previous Universe beyond sets weren't standard legal, but now the Spiderman set will be standard legal for 3 years, so I can't see why Wotc won't make it available to whoever wants to play limited or open packs to build their own standard decks. Not to mentioned, even if Wotc decides to stop selling certain boxes, they can always reprint the packs for some specialty product, like they are doing with the Lotr commander box special at Costco.

I missed out on buying any of these. I got stuck on a waiting list and it sold out before I got to do anything. My only experience with Magic stuff was with the Lord of the Rings. I am still working my way through completing the set. I didn't want the Marvel to play, I just wanted a foil of the main character cards for personal collection. For the Lord of the Rings, they had four commander decks which had a thicker foil card outside of the 100 card deck. I bought those, kept the thicker foil, and sold the 100 card deck. Do you think we will get one of those for these five sets?

I’m really thinking about forking the money over for the foil bundle on ebay.

They're already shipping them, very excited to get these in hand but am a bit nervous since some Secret Lair foils can be poorly printed. I would think they'd be a bit more cautious as this is their biggest Universe Beyond set to come.

Just saw that foil sets seem to include a bonus Groot themed card as well. If you're buying on the secondary market, make sure you get that card when they send it to you.

Just to throw more craziness into the mix I'm reading that there are also different versions of Groot as well so you could get a Abundant Groot for example in the Iron Man Bundle instead of the Sculpting Steel version that people are saying is much more rare.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/205093029662

Still waiting on my order to ship. I picked up 5 Astonishing Bundles during the drop.

Sounds like there could be up to 8, but there’s at least one that is a variant. It would be amazing if it was in addition to the themed Groot but I doubt they double you up like that.

No posts to this thread in six months. Was this set not well received? Have any future Marvel/Magic sets been announced?

Final Fantasy is in two weeks and is getting 98% of the MTG attention. Spider-Man is later this year and so far, people are meh on it since it has the same MSRP as Final Fantasy but not serialized cards. Also, Spider-Man won’t be in MTG Arena which helps pump physical products so that’s a bummer.

I think the Deadpool Secret Lair was well received. I still plan on buying up some Spider-Man product, but I’m focused on budgeting for Final Fantasy.

Flippers quieted down once they realized this was not an ultimate bonanza "to the moon" proposition and actual Magic players moved on from this release pretty soon after the frenzy died down as the cards themselves are pretty low powered and not overly interesting outside of the novelty of the crossover.

The Deadpool Secret Lair was definitely superior. Better reprints and the actual Deadpool card is mechanically unique and has seen some competitive play.

Like Brobocop said, everyone is in a frenzy for Final Fantasy and the hype for Spiderman likely wont hit a boil until after that dust has cleared and/or until we see evidence that the set will have any sort of respectable power level.

Is it confirmed that there are no serial cards in Spiderman collector boxes? I have not decided if and when I should buy Spiderman mtg boxes, I'll just have to wait and see how the Final Fantasy mtg does and based on its trends. I don't mind missing out on Final Fantasy, cause I'm not interest in that IP, but if the play boxes stay at $200 and collector boxes stay at $750, I might need to preorder some Spiderman mtg boxes soon.

The mockup of the CBBs make no mention of serialized cards. In recent history, if they had them in the set, there’d be a label on the box.

The Infinity Stone cards look pretty cool. Speculation is pretty heavy there will be serialized versions of them.

I bet they’re just very rare, similar to the human, dwarf, and elf Sol Rings in LOTR.
