It's a fungus not a virus so we're not the same as The Walking Dead.
Then the show goes right back to the same "spread by zombie bite" trope. Trying to distinguish itself from other zombie apocalypse movies and TV is a losing battle when even the orphan/surrogate father premise was done better in another game. When it's not possible to be new in a genre, you embrace the tropes and make them your own. Instead, the producers seem satisfied with checking off certain playable scenes. I don't think I've seen so much walking and running in a show before without anything actually happening. |

I watched the first episode and wasn’t too into it. I have never played the video games so maybe that would have helped me enjoy it as much as others. I think as a pilot TWD did a much better job of reeling the viewer in, but maybe my view on that is biased since I did have familiarity with the TWD comic before the TV show began.

I watched it, never played the game but am aware of it. Wasn't impressed, seems pretty on par with every other zombie show.

Craig Mazin quoted as saying "We're so used to characters with plot armor. One of the great things that The Last of Us achieved was puncturing that plot armor in such a brutal and gorgeous and sad way."
I guess he thinks no one has ever heard of either The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones

Watched it and LOVED it - also played the games. The running away scene (knowing what was about to happen) was crazy...........reminded me 100% of the game.
Look forward to this one each week.

I wasn't aware a thread existed for the show and posted about it in the horror movie thread. Not all that thrilled after one episode but I'll give it a couple more weeks. I'm getting the same vibe from this show that I got from the Netflix Resident Evil show. I find the young female lead very obnoxious right away. Both are very easy to dislike.

Did you play the game? I thought Ellie was very well represented, they nailed her type of humor right off the bat

Being one of the worlds biggest fans of Resident Evil and also being a fan of both TLOU games, I’m shocked someone could make this comparison. TLOU looks, feels, and sounds like the game, almost to a fault. Resident Evil, both the show and movies, are almost embarrassed to be associated with the games rather than embrace them and properly adapt them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I never played the games. Maybe it would give me a different perspective on the shows. My comments are based solely on the shows, and the personalities of the characters, alone.

I still believe that Bella should have been made Queen on Game of Thrones.

They made Clickers more terrifying than they were in the game. They also depicted how hard it is to get a head shot on them so well with the flailing arms charging right at you.
Not sure how I feel about the interconnectivity thing. I guess as long as this doesn't just disappear in the rest of the episodes it's fine, but if it's a one and done thing it will be kind of bad. |

Yeah I don't mind getting rid of spores, but I think there is danger in introducing something and then having it disappear as if it were never a thing so I just want the interconnectivity thing to come around in future episodes as well. There could be additional explanation required as well as it's not clear why not all infected are connected to this "network."

Oh man the infected are so much more gross in the show than the game. Yuck!

Are clickers a term for anyone that is infected?
I'm guessing over time their heads turn into the flower looking fungus?

How long is Ellie going to eat the same chicken sandwich? Unless she has a Yeti in her backpack that thing is more dangerous than the clickers.

Infected= they can't move very fast, so they are easier to kill. Runners= They run at you and are a little more difficult to kill. Clicker= They have the fungi head and are blind but have extraordinary hearing. More difficult to kill than Runners. Bloater= The bigger and more powerful of the bunch. Extremely difficult to kill due to the fungi creating an "armor". And the last and probably the scariest...Ratking. We won't see it this season, but definitely next season. |

That’s what you do in the game.

So the "runner" would be the type that chased Joel and his daughter right before she died from the military guy.

Yep, that was a runner. There's also a "stalker" thar is in between infected and runner. Like I said, it gets confusing lmao |

Makes sense. Despite not playing the game, I'm noticing multiple things that are game-like. Example: walking through the door way and it immediately collapsing behind you preventing any double back.
