Ginter X prices and a limit of 1 box suckered into an easy buy. I would have questioned it if it was 2 or more box limits...I go for the limit or none at all. At $175 I would probably not have gotten any boxes, but since the max was 1 it put me into my sucker mentality of "Can't hurt too much at just one box".

And the people buying one box often don’t sell anything from them.

LMAO...so the autograph checklist is the worst they have put out in years, so they increase price 75 dollars per and collectors still bend over and pay it. Next year no autographs, one numbered parallel per box and 350 per right?

Agreed. It's the "perception of scarcity" in this market that seems to benefit Topps in this regard. Impulsive secondhand boxes can sell for double unopened but there's little benefit from purchasing these sealed. However, flippers who crack or PC one/more players are typically worse off in building a base set when they're boxed out (heh) of the Topps sale.

I knew it was coming and I knew it was going to be more. I'll get my box and be happy with one. But the tide has definitely turned for me.

I really really wanted this product, but I just can't do it for $200 shipped.

Being able to add 2 to cart saves you a few dollars on shipping compared to the 1 box yesterday and 1 box today that Montgomery Club members had access to.

MC starting to feel like a premium priced service rather than a deal. They should at least do something like free shipping.

Just for fun ...

I went back and looked at my 2019 Ginter X spreadsheet. Cost was like $65/box or something. Opened 4 cases. Decent checklist, crushed the break. I mean just massacred it.

My net return ... NET ... was $135/box.

$200/box shipped for a worse product with a worse checklist and a 2-box limit? Get out of here with that crap.

Did you get a box with MC? I'm staying away from the public offering and will be content with the 1 box. IMO, fun is always to be had with 1 box, luck will allow for a PC item or a big seller. Chances will be just base for PC and nothing to note to trade/sell for investment price.

And yet, the MC thread was still full of people who bought "just to rip/stash something". That alone shows Topps there is a market at $175.

Price is awful, but it still sells, so Topps knows they priced it right. Doesn't matter to them if it sells out in 2 hours or 2 months.

The price is awful. It does sell a bit better by 1 box I would assume (I'm guilty of it). $200 for a box of cards is standard "budget" these days...it's more a matter of what do you want out of that box.

Nearly everything sells out from Topps direct box wise, so no matter what, you are forced to pay more at LCS/online/secondary markets. These prices are what is limiting a "rip/stash something" collector like me from buying multiple boxes.

I will still rip and stash whatever I open out of my box, but I won't invest into multiple boxes as odds are low of hitting a big name on a low numbered mini or an auto of whoever is SP on the (future) checklist.

Way more people saying they passed than saying they bought it.

Topps has been testing the limits and has just about reached the tipping point.

It's a shame that it happened on a product like Ginter X because it's more of a collector's product than a flipper's product and now a lot of collectors are priced out.

Yep..I know it's not considered popular among the masses but I loved ripping this stuff each year since 2017. I like that it was super affordable and guaranteed a Ginter X SP'd auto..and the odds of pulling a red or silver mini were really good. I could rip..sell some of the cards to cover the cost of the rip and keep stuff like an Eloy Gold Auto to 5, Acuna Auto to 25..fun autos like Marc Summers etc..I fully expected a price hike...I kinda thought traditionally Ginter X was priced lower than Regular Ginter on Topps Website so I was thinking $125 possibly $150 (and even at $150 I'd probably not love it, but still get at least one box) but $175..I just couldn't do it.

Sure, more people are saying they passed, but that's just on this message board which is like 1% of the hobby.

Plenty of uninformed, or simply people with disposable income, that are still buying. So, as long as there are buyers, the product was priced correctly in the eyes of Topps.

If the secondary market settles at $200 (which is too high, but what isn't these days), people will still buy this at $175 to rip. Topps did what they wanted, cut out the flipper and take the full price home.

This is depressing. I will still probably buy two because there is nothing else to rip in this withering hobby.

Where can we see the auto checklist? I dont see it on cardboard connection

I don't know that comparing products and pricing from even 1-2 years ago gives an accurate assessment. My cost on 2018 Update cases compared to the outcome selling the cards later is astronomical...like I was paying $500-600 per case.

It will sell out - regular Ginter is widely available elsewhere for $110-120 a box, so it sits at $150 per box on Topps. Ginter X is an online exclusive - only available direct.

We have a lot more people in the hobby right now - people passing doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

Yep. That was a fun product.
$70 plus shipping and tax, direct from Topps.
If I knew then… I’d have bought a few extra boxes. Not to stash, but to open; so I’d have the memories now when the prices have gone whacko!

I was so happy to get a box of this last year (and pull an Acuna auto, to boot!) But can't talk myself into this price, especially since there aren't many non-sport autos that interest me.

Should still be fun for those that just enjoy getting to rip something!
