Ok, time for a new thread.
This offseason, they needed to fix a few things. Obviously the defense. But they also need to be able to have a standalone passing offense. Something Greg Cosell said last year when talking about the Titans has stuck with me. Basically, it's that your rushing offense and passing offense need to operate independently. Meaning that when you're not running well, you still need to be able to throw it. And even when you're not throwing it well, you still need to be able to run it. That was the Titans problem last year. When Henry was rolling, they could put up 40. But once a good defense stopped Henry, they couldn't throw it. Losing Lewan really exacerbated that. So far, they've.. Lost: Humphries - Cut Butler - Cut Wilson - Traded Jonnu - Pats Corey Davis - Jets Humphries was obvious. He couldn't stay healthy, was making a lot, and had a concussion issue. Butler was tricky, for a few reasons. First, he was their best corner last year. He was legitimately good. But he was making too much. Even if they had kept him, it's not really an ideal corner group. Fulton will be good. He can play inside, but he's really more suited to play outside. Tough loss. Wilson is obvious. Losing Jonnu sucks. Period. He finally started to blossom, and now the Pats will benefit from it. But man.. he got PAID. There's no replacing him this year, though. Davis - IDK. We've been waiting for years for him to put it all together, and he finally did. Then he ends the season horribly. Personally, I wanted him back. But it's all about how much $ is available. He can be replaced. The problem is that this WR FA class isn't great. Added: Bud Dupree Denico Autry Kendall Lamm With Dupree, the need is obvious. I love Autry. Not only has he whooped their ass the past few years, but he can get to the QB. And he does it from the inside. He will help take pressure off Simmons, who really felt it when Clowney went down. Lamm I think is not only a need with Wilson gone, but he's a reaction to how poorly Sambrailo and Quessenberry held up in pass pro. It really limited the offense. Lamm is pretty much the opposite. Good pass blocker, poor run blocker. With how much Henry gets on his own, you can live with that. It goes along with the idea of needing to be able to throw it easier. He can also push Kelly. One of them is likely gone next year. I think they want that to be Kelly. TBD: D. Jones King Jayon Clowney It's been speculated that all will walk. Losing Jones would suck. He's consistently good. He's underrated. I'd love to have Jayon back. He's a playmaker. But he's likely to get $10 mil for multiple years. There's also Firkser, who will be back as a RFA. Needs: WR2 Slot WR ILB Slot Corner TE NT A few guys that I like: CB - Mike Hilton, Brian Poole TE - Gerald Everett WR - John Brown (health?), David Moore, Marvin Jones, Curtis Samuel I have no idea how many of these guys are realistic. Are they going to restructure any contracts? Tannehill's a prime candidate that could free up up a ton of cap space. We shall see. |
