Yes the text/post were probably a promo, but I don't think that is very relevant. Just bc Ray didn't personally sit at his PC bidding doesn't really matter. If it is a promo then it means he accepted cardboard as payment for WORK, even if it was easy influencer-work. What's important is he is clearly very happy to have the card!
And players collecting isn't all that far fetched. I'm sure you all know its been pretty common in the MLB for a while, no reason to believe it can't catch on in the NBA. |

I am still not sure why people were thinking he was gifted the card?
There is only one of these. Finding the owner and convincing the owner to part with it is a big deal. All of us collectors do the exact same thing when we land a long time ISO, why can't Ray do it?

Goldin himself said in reply to a comment on his tweet that the card wasn't a Goldin Auction, so there's that. No need to be all up in that sheister's jock, already plenty of others there.

Yeah man, Ray Allen isn't "investing" in cards, lol. He either bought the card because he wanted it or someone gave it to him for marketing/social media campaign purposes. I kind of think he just wanted it. Good for him.

This is the future of super high end. Althletes and celebrities can easily acquire major pop culture cards to show off on IG (Timbaland Deshaun Watson). They’re all looking for attention. Great for those holding.

Might put more money in your pockets if you're already holding stuff, but for those who have never bought to invest, it just makes things harder/more expensive to buy. Nobody's going to be paying thousands for my set of mid-90s inserts, so it's not like they're worth much to anyone and I couldn't (even if I wanted to) sell to even try to buy a box or something nowadays, or any nice singles, as things are getting ridiculous. It's truly no longer a hobby at all. It's too expensive to be. And few people are genuinely buying just to have and not care about the future value. |
