@Chrashingwaves

It is his rookie. I think in the bigger picture of the four major star cards in the set he is the weakest in terms of where he stands in wrestling history.

Cena is a top guy. Orton is still around and doing great work. Lesnar is my favorite modern wrestler ever. Batista has turned into a crybaby on Twitter and goes on rants about Trump until he is blue in the face. I own one of the four copies and some other graded ones but don't view him as someone I like in wrestling. In my view he has become too Hollywood and too much of an SJW. These two issues may resonate with others it is hard to say. The price is still higher than passed sales but clearly lagged.

I think the thing with this set is in most cases these eye popping results would bring out a rush of supply. Here it can't. I have two of Cena, Orton, and Lesnar and so the potential supply is very low. I subbed many years ago but kept buying boxes when I could and have not hit a 10 on the last four. I don't believe you will be finding raw copies loose on EBAY that will 10 either so these population totals have grown some over the years but not much and have weathered people like me ripping the best product with the most potential of getting 10's and have struck out.

It was only a matter of time until this set took off. The prices definitely went higher than I expected but the other huge issue is that the same people diving head first into wrestling now in many cases are paying astronomical prices for unproven athletes from various sports. The three that did well are mega stars from their era.

@pryantexas

I was recently on Card Cutter's wrestling show on Youtube and we discussed wrestling cards in great detail and I mentioned how it was great when the Rock was in wrestling because you could get chicks to watch. I was not missing Monday Night Raw. Haha

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSBCcIcd7bo

There are two types of wrestling cards in my view. Pure wrestling cards and pop culture wrestling cards. I always use someone like Dick Murdoch as my example. The guy was a longtime wrestler and a name but the average joe is not going to race out and buy his card. Hulk Hogan on the other hand is one of the most recognizable human beings on the planet. There will be plenty who avoid pure wrestling cards but embrace the pop culture wrestling cards.

This most recent wave in the card market has been driven big time by social media. Now that wrestling cards have some value they are cool. Ten years ago they were considered junk but no longer and as more cards rise it brings in more interest regardless of genre. The immensely lower supply of actual cards produced and then the high grade scarcity element just add to the potential and obviously we are seeing that playout.

I recently busted five sets looking for an Undertaker and sent them in recently. It is a tough card to find centered and obviously the blue borders are impacted easily and the cards come in cellophane bricks. His cards in general have been woefully undervalued and I think The Undertaker has cemented himself as one of the best of all time. He also is likable and I think that goes a long way. The card itself is cosmetically appealing and I think that helps too. Make sure you check out his Merlin cards. Those are cool too.

Thanks Dpeck for the feedback... didnt know he had gone all SJW... figured with his movie exposure, his value would be up. Batista does not have many cards... hope this changes.

I was the second highest bidder on the Lesnar.... pissed I did not bid more. I have been after a 2002 Fleer Lesnar PSA 10 for a while. Have a BGS 9 of his 2002 Fleer WWE Raw vs. SmackDown card, which was released earlier (top grades are PSA 9 & BGS 9) but wanted that other Fleer to go with it.

Who has a 2002 Lesnar PSA 10 for sale!

I agree with the Undertaker assessment. Surprised his 1994 Action Packed autos have not skyrocketed. I was after that 1991 # 64 PSA 10 too as I have the top grades of the other 3 Undertaker cards in that 91 release (#30 - PSA 9, #88 - PSA 10 and #106 - PSA 9).

Looks like the undertaker's early autos are moving in an opposite direction compared to his early base cards. Both the 94 Action Packed and Fleer War Booty have moved downward in pricing IMO. I saw a War Booty auto went at auction for $250ish, which I found shockingly low for an early on-card auto.

That being said, I miss the days of picking up PSA 9 Merlins for $10 to $20 a piece.

Thanks for taking the time to share some great insights

With a lot of the wrestlers, I’m buying raw cards or opening wax hoping for gradable stuff

What isn’t gradable (the majority) I send into
Private signings ... I have piles of signed cards sitting at psa so I hope to show some off soon

I'm still waiting for the first PSA-graded Hogan 1986 Scanlens to come up for auction, I'm curious to see if the "rarity" of it translates into strong prices. Full disclosure, I have a beat up copy, it probably wouldn't grade over a PSA 4 so I don't think it's worth sending in to be graded quite yet.

Was digging through my collection and pulled this out:

https://youtu.be/AN6YYdjsMi8

It's unique, has the three biggest names from my childhood.

Gotta hunt for the final production card.

Hope you enjoy and stay safe everyone !

Wow....a 1982 All-Stars PSA 9 Autographed Hogan sold on ebay on 12/30/20 for $36,600 (76 bids). Craziness. Makes the unsigned BGS 9 that sold on Dec. 26 for $5000 seem like a steal.

Does anyone have Hulk Hogan Sportkings cards? I love the ‘82, but his Sportkings from Brian Price are by far my favorite!

1982 Hogan Japanese BBM stamp sold for $162.50 tonight. These could be had for $40 or so at the start of 2020. Anybody know if any of the grading companies will grade these?

PSA takes them. Here are a couple of past sales:

On Undertaker auto stuff I’d be cautious... seems he is signing a lot more now with privates.

What's the consensus on the '82 Hulk All-Star at the moment, is it in a plateau period or does it still have significant growth potential in the short-term?

Graded will rise until pop grows but lower graded has solid room. Fakes are starting to pop up now.

Realistically,1982 is the most iconic wrestling card/set. It's big money now, but it's probably the safest. I feel 90s stuff is mostly speculation where as 1982 is safe and will consistently rise. You can basically put that card in a safe and pull it back out in 30 years and it'll be worth several times more.

Hoping this Biden $1400 stimulus comes through so I can put it toward a 1982 all star. In the mean time, got this little pickup. I mean, arguably the two greatest of all time. I had to go for it.

Over 2k for the 1985 Topps Hulk Hogan #1 PSA 10 in five hours.

Definitely going to be an interesting auction.

Hard to believe a 1985 Topps #16 PSA 7 is up to $355 at auction. Makes me feel a bit sick as I just sold a PSA 8 for $190 on MySlabs. Those were the comps just a week or two ago. Oh well, lol.
