Yeah I can see people being angry at that last point. If there were older redemptions that went unfulfilled, then you saw new live autos (like the ones in this year’s Contenders, which is an awesome set), I can totally understand being pissed at not getting your auto. It does sound like they do have some autos to distribute, so hopefully people in your situation will at least get an auto instead of the pack.

Yeah that was exactly my point as well. Panini could have given a bunch of points and said FU, but they went out of their way to find a unique solution. The chrome Kobe tribute cards in the packs should be worth something as well, since it seems like this will be the only place to find them.

I've got a 19-20 prizm redemption out that I assume I will get a pack for. Not great but somewhat expected, I'm not crazy upset.

If I had a better redemption (or had no other Kobe autos) I would be pretty mad with this

I'm not sure what else Panini could have done.... but waiting on an auto from Kobe and winding up with ANOTHER made up parallel from a 2nd tier set.

Think about where a decent Kobe auto will be 15 years from now.... and where 98% of these replacements will be in that time. I'd be pissed if this impacted me. Not at Panini as much as at the situation.

what was the value of the card BEFORE he passed? I hear a lot of whining and bitching in this thread of people trying to play it both ways.

If he was alive and signing for the next 50 years, you'd have your auto but it would probably only be worth $250

They went out of their way to create these special cards that you'll probably be able to sell for at least $500

You're all whining about Scenario C, where you obtained the auto BEFORE he passed and are able to sell it AFTER, which is conveniently the only case in which you are up thousands of dollars. seriously, be happy you're getting anything. money is important, but it always brings out the worst in people

I think it could be less about the money and more about the fact that they are giving out more parallel garbage. I get it, they are low numbered, but so are Tmall exclusives, and FOTL exclusives, and Mosaic choice exclusives....

It's overkill. The 'return to junk wax era' comparison isn't an issue of printing too many copies of each card like it was in 1991, it's an issue of printing off parallels in oblivion. This is just more of the same.

I've never been a fan of random rewards for things like these. When people pulled/purchased Kobe redemptions they knew what they were getting, but now it's completely up to chance whether or not they get anything close to what those Kobe autos would've been worth. If the checklist is carefully curated then it's a different story, but the presence of that Jaxson Hayes doesn't give me much hope that it is.

With that being said, I think the cards themselves look great. Any snakeskin LeBron is going to bring huge money, and I'd love to pick up a Kyrie (assuming they're both in the set). The Career Highlights cards are nice too, it's good that Panini is guaranteeing that recipients of the packs at least get something directly related to Kobe.

If they want to make the set fine. But I would have preferred that everyone get a complete Kobe set (with 1 serial card) rather than 1 kobe card and 5 other random mosaics

Agree to disagree. When panini takes years to give you a replacement on a redemption and the value goes down they give you the lesser value.

But when the value goes up because someone passed they aren't liable.

Scenario C isn't uncommon even if you owned the card. People might be happy to have 5 kobe autos that sell for 1500 combined. But once they are worth 7500 they would be looking to sell a few.



Granted some chance these packs are decent value if i'm reading it right. You get 5 cards that are all numbered /24 or less? Just kind of a random replacement and the tribute looks like a lazily done panini instant set.

I should, however, have added that the REALLY frustrating part is that they were placing his signed stickers on newer releases and fulfilling those before products that were older. Made and still makes no sense to me.

I have a 2019 prizm fast break Kobe redepmtion and I'm just happy to have some clarity on the situation. If I get the Kobe card that is amazing, if I get one (or more?) of these packs that's cool too.

Definitely interested to see how they differentiate the levels of redemptions, if some get multiple packs or something to even the balance.

IMO, the best you could have hoped for is some sort of Flawless quality commemorative set, each with 1 Game Worn card, similar to what hey did with Kobe Emininance (but without the autos, of course), or what Upper Deck used to do with the their Master Collection sets.

But that would be expensive for them. Instead they just printed more crap the intrigue the masses who love shiny stuff.

Spot on. Let’s see how many people are still complaining when they are selling these packs or the cards in them for tons of money. Yes, I know people want their Kobe auto, and in case everyone didn’t read clearly enough, some people will still be getting a Kobe auto. Hopefully those go to the customers that had older redemptions that Panini sat on and never redeemed for 2+ years. For everyone that gets the packs and not a Kobe auto, be happy you are getting more than just points. I mean, I can’t even get someone to pick up the phone at their customer service line, what were you guys really expecting?
