If I had to guess... probably 10k a year or so that is "out of pocket". I've been able to turn cards into more cards a bunch which is nice.

But I am the type that has no problem eating top Roman for two weeks if it means I can help my investments / collections. Been many times I had 100 left over after Bill's for the week and spent the lions share of that on cardboard. Probably not the smartest guy in any room.

I was very fortunate to turn 300 into 5k this year (raw lebron topps rc dimed) and I spent that on a white trash mobile home. So while it isnt the nicest spot... this hobby did facilitate me buying a home which is awesome.

Easy come easy go. Money isnt real.

Hoping to spend 50k in 2021 on cards for investment purposes... the kids college isnt going to be cheap

Out of pocket I have spent about $2,500. Most of that is COMC store credit, the rest PC cards I put on my desk.

More than I should.

Im not really a collector anymore so anything I buy I plan to sell quickly or down the road.

A couple years ago I was spending about 2k a month on ebay. Then I thought that was way too much. Nowadays 2k gets me like 3 boxes.

Under a grand this year. Under three grand last year. Over five grand in 2018. About ten grand in 2017. If plotted, my interest in the hobby has a descending path.

Probably somewhere in the $5k range this year but a lot of that came from selling stuff I had sitting around.

% of my take home I spend on cards is very low maybe like 1-2%.

This approach doesn't seem practical or sustainable

It's steadily gone down each year since i've been back. I thought this year might see a bump in my spending. But Panini and distributors put a stop to that with ridiculously inflated prices. This year, as others have mentioned, I'm strongly in the black. I've made and removed more money from the hobby than in any year since i've been back. My spending has gone down and my sales have gone way up while continuing to strengthen my collection.

I don't see this making 10x + more than i spend continuing. But i do hope i can settle into a comfortable equilibrium.

Since 2020 is the "year of the sell", I haven't been buying much. Too many people stuck at home searching the bay and the Mart 24/7.

Guess my bank is happy since Covid started, but not my PC...…….

I only spend what i'm willing to lose. I collect for fun and i'm not counting on any of this stuff to fund my retirement or kids college fund. I have separate far more stable investments setup for all that. Let's just say I lived through the 90's boom and know better.. lol

Was investing about 12% per month, however, I have cut down recently. Finding decent Lavine cards is getting a little harder for me now.

I don't collect for fun. I collect to get-rich-quick. I have every MJ Holdings / Excel rep's contact information within a 500 mile radius of my house. I have employees on my payroll. I am always first to the product and don't give a dam about the kids. I am not here to lose money. I am here to make money. Sometimes a little, sometimes a lot depending on what the reps hand me before it hits the shelves. I don't give 2 craps about nobody but me and my wallet. Anybody stands in my way of product is gonna get mowed down. You wanna beat me to the product, pony up more than I have slid to the reps/Mart/Target/Meijer employees. Free enterprise. You got a problem with that, take it up with the posse.

Signed, every dam 25 year old flipper in my town!!

Used to spend $20-80/month on retail rips, but have had zero luck (like most people) finding any. I bought maybe $20-30 worth of singles for the PC. would love to buy a little more but hard to get interested in products without breaking some of them.

NONE, they don't make hologram cards anymore so it is hard for me to find cards.

But...some shiny cards from Revolution do catch my eyes.

Randy,

I knew that you ran with that damn group! You know all of their inner workings. I am severely disappointed. I thought you were better than that. I guess 2019-20 Mosaic Basketball was your achilles all along...

I used to spend about 10% of my income on cards but have probably cut that in half or less over the last year.

Definitely not much since i left the US to go back to Europe.
But for sure, i spend 1000$ each time i go to The National, limiting spendings to 200$ per day (i usually stay 5 days)

About $270

EDIT:
That's this year. I've spent about $1000 over the past 2 years.
