Like the OP stated I would be concerned about the nasty smelling overweight dudes for sure. I’m always disgusted when I’m in a public bathroom and I see others walk out without a good hand washing, nasty!

But what if you spread it to people over 60 or have a serious health condition?

I’m attending. The real answer is no one knows how serious or not serious this is yet. Nothing wrong with exercising caution. But I suspect, by then, we’ll know the actual impact (or lack thereof) by then.

This.

At the hospital I work at, which has confirmed coronavirus patients, the people actually getting really sick from the coronavirus are the much older UNHEALTHY patients. When I say unhealthy, these patients already have advanced stages of COPD.

This is no different than an unhealthy elderly person getting the normal flu.

Society would be well-served to sensibly limit activities so as to limit the viruses ‘ spread until a vaccine can be developed.

That is unless people don’t mind people needlessly dying.

You fall into the group of people that I am most concerned about - the healthcare workers that cannot avoid exposure.

I'm definitely not an expert on it, but some reports make it sound like the healthcare workers are getting it worse and at higher rates than they would the flu. Not only that, but very few places have the staffing to lose many if any employees for any length of time.

The rest of us are choosing to go out to events or other places and interacting with the public and assuming the risk on our own. The healthcare workers are doing their job and now at an increased risk that is no fault of their own.

I thought this board trended young? I just got a week's worth of old white guy in one page.

ETA: In regard to the OP's question: are you familiar with the people that run the National? If they were using the convention hall to quarantine corona virus patients they would still hold the National there. These guys aren't losing their money.

If it is suspected that a patient may have the coronavirus, all crazy measures are taken: we wear negative pressure respirators (masks) and completely gown up like we’re going into a tuberculosis patient room. We also limit the amount of workers going in to the room.

I admit, the problem is when we see the patients BEFORE the patient is confirmed as a “possible/suspected coronavirus patient”.

I currently stay out of the public to limit the possibility to get my mother infected. She is over 70+ years old and I am her caretaker, after my father passed away. I personally don’t think she is healthy enough to beat a coronavirus. When I get home from work, I make sure I change after I clock out at work, wash my scrubs immediately when I get home, then take a shower.

Washington State unfortunately has more coronavirus patients than other states.

Was at a whisky festival today in NYC. 1500 people sharing bottles, water, cups, etc. I’m 35, 6’1, 210 pounds and healthy as an ox. Corona can S my D.

What about the other peoples D's (who are not healthy as an ox?) It's not just an "I" or a "me" thing at this point.

You’re welcome.. but don’t get me wrong. Still be careful when you’re out in public. You might be strong and young enough to beat the coronavirus, but you might infect your elderly loved ones.

My friends asked me to come out for an occasional “guys night out” a few nights ago. I was a bit hesitant.. so I wore gloves and drank from a bottled beer. Haha.

Yup. I was “that guy” at the pub. It’s Washington State.. so I’m not taking any chances to touch a doorknob or drink from a “not properly sanitized” glass.

Yes! I called the pub ahead of time to see if they have bottled IPA beer. Whey they said they have Space Dust, I was game! Haha! I’m not much of a drinker, but I love IPA’s.. especially Space Dust IPA.

Nice!

You're probably already aware, but Bodhizafa IPA (by Georgetown Brewery) is another great one... brewed right in your back yard!

OK... back to the gloom and doom.

Life is always an I or me thing. I don’t have the time or want to care about 7.5 billion people.
