Do you all find you get good deals on still sealed boxes at these shows?

1. Real life human interaction with other collectors. I love nothing more than to just talk to other like minded collectors, this is the best part. You can easily grow your knowledge base with these interactions. I am a huge huge toy guy. I help a friend with a small toy show twice a year and I have grown my knowledge base on vintage toys, comics, etc that fell out of the realm of the modern stuff I enjoy.
2. Finding that gem that may never get listed online, I have run into several vendors over the years who will not list a thing online. No other place to find those hidden gems so why not take a chance.
3. Instant gratification, I will take being able to get it now and see it then having to wait and risk it being damaged.

Love dime, dollar, quarter type boxes. Even at flea markets. Wish the LCS had one.

But to be honest, I'm okay with paying maybe 10% more at a show than on ebay. Why? Because I'm able to look at the card, visit with the seller, pay cash, take the card home.

I don't understand those people that believe the card should be 10% less than ebay because they're buying at a show. Don't those people put a price on the stuff I listed above? Just don't understand it.

A lot of times you can find boxes from the 1980s-early 1990s for $5-$10 apiece. But you have to not buy from those guys holding a box of 1988 Topps for $40.

Sometimes seeing a card in person adds to the appreciation factor versus viewing a picture of a card online. I attended a card show 2 years ago, soon after getting back into the hobby, and came across a displayed 2011 Trout diamond anniversary Update. I was previously aware of the card’s popularity and beauty but seeing one in person made purchasing one a top priority.

Definitely all of this. Shows and shops are both very important and an indicator of hobby health.

Furthermore, shows and shops help bring in new collectors, they spark hobby interest.
