Hardly at all. I really only use them when I ship cards to someone else

Penny sleeves, I only use them to store my TTM autographs. Although at some point im going to try and put all my chrome cards in them too so they dont stick to the pages

Only cards that hold any value anymore are very low numbered stars and a select few rookie cards.

This entire post just sounds like a good reason to not collect at all.

It's mind boggling that people spend so much on this hobby and decide to just trash the majority of it.

I hold on to everything simply for personal enjoyment. If I notice I almost have every base card, I'll display in a folder or something just for fun.

Or even if you have a local dealer bring them to him and ask for some credit or donate them to a local school guidance office for rewards to students

Update to my OP: I agree.

I'm already sick of trying to protect everything, supplies are limited lol. However, I still haven't found the strength to trash stuff.

I really only have my PC, but for this I:

Put all SN and jerseys in a penny sleeve and toploader
Put all SN less than 10 in a one touch
Put all Autos & Jersey/Autos in a one touch

So... anyone else seeing all these ridiculous price jumps and thinking the "base cards -> trash" thing might have been a mistake? I was trying to be less of a hoarder a couple years back and dropped off four 2000 ct boxes at Goodwill (didn't have the heart to actually toss them.)

I definitely had some stuff in there that'd be worth grading to sell to the base card lovin' newbies. Luckily it was like 80% football...

If anyone wants to mail me free base cards from the last 2-4 yrs in NM or better, that they would otherwise throw away, let me know.

I just got done sorting my cards and trying to separate any duplicates from my collection. So far, I have a full 800 count BCW box of duplicate base cards (from various product like Donruss, Contenders, Score, etc.). I could send them your way if you can give me a few tips on how to ship something like that and cover the cost of shipping as well.

Thanks, man. I consult this handy guide whenever I'm deciding how to ship cards.

https://waxpackhero.com/blog/the-def...cards-via-usps

I didn't see anything about 800 count boxes...but the article talks about lots of ways to fit various BCW (or similar) boxes into USPS Flat Rate boxes/padded envelopes (which are free from the Post Office...and you can order them delivered to your house completely free also). I know a medium flat rate box ships for $15.05 - a large for $21.10. You can fit (2) 330 Count boxes into a USPS Flat Rate Envelope - and that ships for $8.40.

Let me know what you come up with.

Although I have way too many of them and despise them -- I can't even bring myself to throw away my multiple monster boxes of 1990 Donruss that are sitting in my basement. Someone ripping new boxes and just throwing away the base... that hurts to think about.

STOP TRASHING BASE CARDS! There are so many more useful alternatives. I can guarantee that loads of kids would be happy to receive even your crappiest base cards. YMCA's, Boys & Girls clubs, Ronald McDonald houses, children's hospitals, etc. And if you don't have any of those in your area, yes take them to a thrift store, salvation army, etc. And if even that is too much to ask, at least recycle them, they are cardboard after all.

Also, I use the hell out of base cards as decoys when shipping.

Only use top loaders for roughly 10% of what is pulled or purchased.

Base cards, there are many teams and players that are highly collected and they are not the Marino's, Elway's, Rice's, but some players that might surprise you. I utilize in trade in order to hopefully locate a card I may be missing.

I use base cards for shipping. I'll put the card I'm selling in a top holder then in a team bag.. load up the team bag with five or six commons to keep the card I'm selling from bending. Who knows, maybe the person I'm selling to can find something better to do with them.

Penny sleeve then top loader for any memorabilia, auto, or other cards worth more than maybe $3-5. Rest goes in a box. Low end PC stuff into a 9 pocket page in a binder. Over $100 or so and it comes with me at the next National to go to BGS.

Only base cards I trash are overproduction era baseball, like when I get some 88 Donruss in a repack, otherwise into the box it goes, never know when something decent comes out of it in the future.

I keep my high end cards $1000 or up in a dirty zip lock bag. All other pc cards I throw in the litter box. Everything else I store in a trash bag, that I take out once a week.

I have been putting base cards in team bags and making sure each has at least 1-2 big names and then I give them to kids.

I gave a 3rd grade basketball team each one repack of base, but each had a Kobe, MJ, Bron, Shaq base and you guys would not believe how exited they got.

I'm at the point I'm throwing PC base cards in the trash.

Only uses for them is protection when mailing cards or using them to spread butter on your toast.

Some people say give them to kids....kids aren't dumb in these parts...they want top rc autos or bust.

Those kids sound like entitled jerks.
