I liked Alstott. The Hall weighs a lot of factors, not sure he checks enough boxes, though the argument for is not an uncompelling one.

I think he's hard to compare to other players. He was always listed as a fullback, but I think most of his stats were as a powerback with someone else lead blocking, or as a single back. In '98 the Bucs even had Lorenzo Neal on their roster and Alstott would line up behind him quite frequently IIRC.
It's kind of similar thing as Larry Centers. He was listed a fullback, but it seemed like he was more of a receiving H-back, or he lined up as one of the backs in a 2 back split shotgun. Probably similar to Keith Byars as well. I will plead ignorance on how Alstott was as a blocker. I just know he checked the versatile and entertaining boxes. Maybe 2 more years as a a heavily used offensive weapon would have helped, his usage trailed off massively after he got hurt. |

Speaking of FB's, one who had an obscure career was Pete Johnson. Played 8 years and totaled 82 career touchdowns.

If we compare positions by era, Mike is ahead of all other recent players at his position and the last FB to be inducted has been forever. In my opinion that is a logical comparison.
Alan Ameche is in the Hall and he was 10th best in the vote. I believe that is another logical comparison but once again, that is my opinion. |

Dan Bunz disagrees.

The modern FB position doesn't get the love it deserves. I would compare a modern FB to an OL or TE before a RB.
I would put Moose Johnston and Alstott in. Maybe a couple more also. |

I'd put Lorenzo Neal in before Alstott. However, I wouldn't be mad at all if Alstott got in.

Still regret selling his 2012 NT shield auto 1/1 back in the day. His high end actually sells quite well.
Put him in. F#$k it. |

The only HOF that matters is the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Nobody ever heard of or cares about the other ones you mentioned.

I believe Mike eventually makes it in. what I like to utilize is the decades best players at their position but when a player arrives in the middle of a decade it's nearly impossible. Mc1 - I would believe every Hall of Fame from College to the Pro's are appreciated and respected by those in the game. Last edited by Stifle; 10-19-2019 at 06:10 PM. |
