Good discussions here.
I have started collecting/looking into soccer cards for the last 2 years and I see the prices are insane especially for big names like Messi Pele Ronaldo, I have seen Pele 1/1 prizm black sold instantly for 8K in fb group, also Messi prizm black heard sold for 25K. They are all in Asia.
I think soccer card is the next big things in collecting world

Yeah, with all the hype around some of the other young players around the world, Jadon Sancho has been lighting the bundesliga on fire. That kid can play, and more importantly, he IS playing...unlike Kubo or Foden, he's getting those critical minutes that will shape his future for years to come. Camavinga over at Rennes is another kid who's been really impressive, though Ligue 1 isn't exactly the bundesliga. Still, it's great to see youngsters doing well. It refreshes the spirit.

Hi all,
Interesting thread. I am a big soccer fan (from France) but I only collect NBA cards (90s and vintage). After reading more and more articles about soccer cards, I have decided to build up a cool collection that I will be looking to trade at Chicago National 2021, for NBA 90s inserts.
I already found a few nice ones:
1939 Churchman Bill Shankly (it seems to be his RC)
1957 Chocolates Zahor Raymond Kopa (is it his RC???)
1984 Cromos Rolan Hugo Sanchez
1984 Cromos Rolan Di Stefano
RC Iker Casillas
2005 Messi (2nd year card)
2005 David Silva (2nd year??)
2005 Iniesta (2nd year card I think)
One original book of the 1920s about FC Barcelona
And I will keep searching more.
I will update you on my cool finds.

Cheers,

HoustoM

I think Shankly's rookie is the 1934 PNE Barratt folder. Kopa is a bit tricky to pin down but he appears on a couple of Konig Fussball 1952 cards, possibly from his international debut. I wouldn't be surprised if there is something earlier though.

Soccer Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has been awarded the 2019 Golden Boy gong after a stellar year where he became one of the most expensive players of all time. The 20-year-old received 332 votes to beat Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho (175 votes) and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz (75 votes) to pick up the award that recognises players under the age of 21.

I just pick up this 50 card set Will’s cigarettes for $4 and I’m wounding why these are so cheap? I don’t see a lot of them on eBay the ones I do see are international sellers

Just looking through that collection, the only names that jumps out are Stanley Matthews and Ted Drake but neither are the rookie cards. Both had been playing for a number of years.

If you google some of the others you see how unimpressive they are.

Grimsby Towns' Charles Craven! All time ninth top scorer for the Mariners!

For the most part its a collection of very average players.

True....but it’s still a set that is almost 80 years old. Compare to other sports where can you get 50 cigarette cards 80 years old for $4? I have to think there value if not still a cool set to have bring that old

Hi,
I’m not at all an expert in soccer cigarette cards, but if I understood well what I read on some specialized websites, apparently millions and millions of cards were produced at the time, because they were very popular. Which may explain the low value (not that low though!!).
Would be nice if an “expert” could confirm...

On a side note, today I bought Xavi’s RC at flea market.

I continue to see more and more interest here in America for soccer cards. Especially graded rookies and low numbered parallels of the legends.
Everyone is looking for the next big thing that they can buy low, grade, hold and then sell.....if you can do that with soccer and hold until the next World Cup...you'll be sitting on some nice profits

Yeah, its an old collection but just because its old it doesnt make it valuable. What is on the cards is what makes them valuable.

Why would anyone be interested in these?

Why did you buy them? I reckon you bought them because of how cheap they were. Thats it. Thats what they mean to you.

I see them on sale on Ebay for 40 pounds or so. Would you have spent that much on the set?

You can pick up Stanley Matthews rookie card from a few before for pretty cheap too. A footballing legend, you would be better off getting that one. Plenty around.

Correct they were cheap and I thought it was a cool set. I guess soccer is different. Any cards from 1939 in the four major sports has more value no matter who the person is. I could be wrong I don’t think you get anything close to 50 cards for $4. It looks like the cards are in decent shape.

It seems to me more and more kids are playing soccer each year while interest in playing other sports is not growing at the same pace.

Colleges are adding soccer as a new sport while already having other sports, so more kids seem to be going to college to play it.

Soccer seems to be aired on tv more than ever in my area.

I would guess soccer collectibles have a decent future ahead of them.

Well this is it, soccer could well go the same way. But Im not so sure. A lot more teams, a lot more players. Some teams will never have played in the top divisions, others will never have won a major trophy.

But they cost you 4 dollars. You wont have hard time selling them for 4 dollars. So nothing lost and its an interesting set.

Those are some nice cards for starting a new collection.

Iniesta's rookie is from 2002, when he had a Panini sticker and a Mundicromo card.
David Villa has an Este sticker, a Mundicromo card, and a couple Panini cards from 2003.
Hugo Sanchez has a couple cards from 1978.
I'm still looking for that Casillas rookie sticker (from Este), but as far as I know, he also has a 1999 card from Mundicromo.

I'm not sure about Raymond Kopa, but I do know that he has a 1956 Bruguera card, which you can see here: https://www.footballsoccercards.com/...era-1503-p.asp

What's the title of that book about Barca? Is it in Spanish? I collect a couple players from that 1920s Barca team (Zamora, Samitier, and Alcantara, to be precise), and I know there are some books about that team, but I haven't found anything in English. I'm particularly interested in finding Alcantara's autobiography, but it doesn't seem to exist in English.

Hi,
Thanks for detailed answer.
Few points:
- I was talking about David Silva (Manchester City) not David Villa. But good to know about Villa's RC anyway.
- I have Casillas Mundicromo RC. I will check the other one too.
- The book is in Catalan. I would be surprised if you find anything original from that period in English. Not sure about title (cover page missing) but it is a summary of every game they played within a 4 years period. Cool stuff!

David Silva. David Villa. Ugh...how could I make such a simple mistake? You're right, though. That Silva card is his 2nd year card.

Lol I thought he could have a RC from Argentina but could not find anything online...still I guess the Megacracks has some value because it is his first year in Europe.

Been seeing a lot of activity/talk about Soccer cards growing on Instagram. Really surprised more Blowout members aren't talking about this. Been following prices of some of the younger kids and there is definitely an upswing in prices.

Maybe it's a good thing that the folks in the Basketball/Football/Baseball threads haven't jumped in on Soccer....still keeping it relatively cheap for me

Aguero also has Panini issues from Argentina if you fancy something a bit more official, I have a Clausura 2005. He might have an Apertura from 2004 as well.
