2019, BO secret santa taken care of.

But i'd try to return them with the expectation that I'd probably not get any thanks.

Yes.
If you can find an address, you can probably find a phone number (to the physical location...house, apartment complex, whatever).
Give a call.
Tell them the situation.
If no one wants it or you strike out, you tried.
No need for a face to face situation.
No need to mail.

I recentlly got a bunch of junk at an auction. Mixed in with the junk was personal pictures & a few momentos. Mostly a woman ( NO Porn) including wedding photos & a kid. Pics range from teen years to 30s-40s.

There was enough info that I somewhat was able to find out a general location.

Would you try to return the pics & if so How.

Mail, Drop them at last known address etc etc

Of course first thing is Yes Return them its nice & the right thing to do, However If I do try return the pics

1 If I am not 100% sure the address is correct I could be sending it to another stranger

2 What if the woman passed?

3 What if she didnt want the pics & then it open up old wounds?

I Really could use advice. Returning them to the auction place is a no go as it would get tossed. Lots of storage bin type consigners so they wouldnt be interested in tracking down someone for pics.

My biggest fear is opening up old wounds for a stranger.

Thanks Blowout!

I probably wouldn’t. Who knows what happened?

How is this not an Ethical Question?
Was it because nothing was implied or involved the words 'ought' or 'should'?

What constitutes an Ethical Question?
Ethical questions involve or imply the words ‘ought’ or
‘should’. They involve consideration of conflicting moral
choices and dilemmas, with several alternative solutions, none
of which is without some challenging or problematic aspect.
They arise because of our social responsibilities to others in our
community and because our behavior is capable of influencing
the welfare of others. Conflicts among principles and values
held by different individuals or groups generate such questions.

This....
The easiest way to go about this is to see if there is a local social media group to the town where you believe the person is from.

Make a post with a couple of pictures asking if anyone knows this person and if she would like her photos back.

You can leave them at a local PO and they can have them back

How am I not on the nice list? By displaying all those photos it shows I’m taking care of them and care about the photos.

There is not right or wrong here. He doesn’t know anything about these pictures. It would be ethical if the question was returning the pictures would make the women happy but doing it would require work and he can’t decide if he wants to do it.

Hmmm...kinda pushin' the boundaries on that nicety, huh?

I'll tell a guy who know a girl who knows an elf to tell Santa that you're okay.
I think I have a picture of the elf.
Yeah, here it is.

Won't take much to do a search to try and find the person. If on FB you can compare pictures. This is what I would do if I were in your shoes.

Maybe some dude got a divorce and is throwing away the pictures of his cheating wife? I say return them and see if you get punched in the face.

You're asking a bunch of people who already established that they won't leave a couple of bucks for a tip when they pick up a to go order. No way people like that would even give a second thought to going out of their way to do something respectable.

It has nothing to do with being doing somebody “respectable”. The op simply doesn’t have any idea about the situation. He knows nothing about the people, zip. He has no idea what the situation is, was or could be. The one thing we do know is that the women or someone she appears to be close with was not responsible enough to pay for something they used. It’s just as likely this would make her upset then her happy.

Certainly is not an ethical question.

Also could even being causing trouble for the OP. Perhaps she forgot she had the locker and there is something very valuable in there she will want back.

There are just to many unknowns for me to think it’s a good idea.

If you could just drop them on a doorstep with out having to talk to anyone and leave a note saying you found these items, I’d say go for it. But with the chance the encounter could go bad, I would do it if it requires any sort of contact with the person. Way to many unknowns.

Has nothing to do with be “respectable”. It’s common sense to not put yourself in harm

So because someone doesn’t tip when it’s not needed now they are bad people? Get off your pedestal.

New postal rules in July allow someone to mail something without providing a return address.

Do you tip when you go to fast food? They are providing literally the same service. And you are doing way more work to pick something up then going through a drive thru

I tip but usually cause it’s easy to just round up to the next number ending in 5 or 0
