I think part of it is the eye appeal. At least for me that is the case. Also, you rarely see them available at reasonable prices for the big name guys. I wish I had more of them.

These are my favorite parallels to chase. The combination of the low print run and the extremely condition sensitive paper make them really hard to find in great condition.

I just got a pair of 2015 Update Syndergaards back from PSA and they were both 8's.

Still happy.

I'm a fan of all the Topps flagship serial numbered cards, but especially the blacks. I've never been much interested in Bowman so part of it is personal preference. But I also believe there are supply considerations that favor these cards in the long term. Lots of these cards get pulled from retail products by less than serious collectors. These cards may never see the light of day, especially compared to some other products where you can practically guarantee they are all in the hands of someone who is a knowledgeable collector/investor. This extends to condition, as I'm sure there are Topps serial RCs not being properly cared for. Black foil, especially, can get beat up even if it is being handled correctly.

There have been many $100+ of these, just do an eBay completed search for topps black rc

2011 Topps Update is loaded with potential for blacks - besides Trout, Altuve, and Goldschmidt, there's Rizzo, Hosmer, Sale, Blackmon, Lemahieu, J.D. Martinez, and Kimbrel

Think I might prefer a refractor 9.5/10 auto from 2006 BDPP if I'm going to go above that though.

I picked up the 2016 Gary Sanchez Black RC about a month ago for $33 dlvd, thought it was a pretty good deal.

Crazy kershaw I think one sold over the summer not too long ago for 700-800.

This recent listing had nice edges but one corner looked potentially rough

I recall buying a black kershaw several years ago for like 70 and right afterwards another hit the market and I passed at similar price. Smh

After doing a bit of research, I found out that Craig Kimbrel's first Topps card is in 2011 Topps Update. It's an All-Star card, so Beckett does not list it as a RC, even though it technically should be since his 2011 Bowman Draft, 2011 Bowman Chrome Draft, 2011 Bowman Sterling, and 2011 Topps Chrome cards all are.

I picked this up for $21.21 a couple of weeks ago (I figured why not? Decent price imo):
