Likely true, MLB should test players.
But much more difficult now to stay under the radar. Not too hard to tell if a player is on steroids. Packing on muscle naturally is not that hard just depending on player frame size and how hard they willing to work hard for it or easier short cut. Look at physics of natural player vs ones on Steroids. It is possible to play high level of baseball without it. Some just go for that extra edge. People will always doubt, discount, and question Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds era. |

Since Ohtani has been in a funk the past week this board is getting less active. Anyone care to share what they have been buying lately? I just picked up a 2018 complete set relic, and a 2018 bowman sterling for the PC (and also picked up another 2018 Topps new era).
Anyone also care to share what Ohtani RC they think are very under valued? In my opinion both the #700 and US1 rainbow foils appear to sell for less relatively to other players (such as Tatis, Acuna, Soto). Also if you compare other players rainbow foils price ratio to Chrome refractors it also appears much lower. Not sure if anyone else noticed this. Last edited by seanrs1; 08-03-2021 at 01:35 PM. |

Topps Chrome Update Pinks should be at least $1,000 raw.

But.. this is very naive. It's the opposite. The players, and their regimens, are wayyyyyy ahead of the testing. By the time the league knows what to test for, the guys in the lab have already been giving their players something new. |

What do you think Ohtani needs to do before collectors join in? Win MVP this year? Perform as a two way player the next 5 or more years and remain healthy? I am not a flipper and don't need to sell, so I am happy to hold for the long haul. |

Whenever he's no longer perceived as "risky". I think another half season performing at a top level will do it but maybe it takes until 2023. Ohtani is doing something never really done before so people just automatically think he's less likely to keep doing it as opposed to say Guerrero keep hitting at the same level. It makes no rational sense but most collectors aren't rational and don't really understand how to judge what performance is sustainable and what isn't

With world class genetics (which these guys have) and world class strength coaches (which these guys have), most baseball players don’t need anything beyond a solid diet (and they have world class nutritionists at their disposal), creatine and protein to attain their current physique.
As I’ve said before, the players that are most likely to use are the players entering their mid thirties that are trying to extend their prime. I’m not naive enough to think it doesn’t exist, but the prevalence with which it likely occurs is way overblown by some on here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A nice double down the line for Shohei Ohtani! Lets hope it's a slump buster.

Maybe it's just confirmation bias but it feels like he leads off A LOT of innings.

Not necessarily. Just means they happened to hit the lottery with certain favorable genetic attributes from somewhere down the line. It’s not as simple as just mom + dad equals exact mixture of genetic attributes. Anecdotally, I had pretty favorable genetics for athletics and my mom (love her to death) may be the least athletic person I’ve ever encountered with no underlying health issues. Way more athletic ability comes from genetics than people want to admit. Baseball has some guys that have done a lot without necessarily winning the genetic lottery but you still have to have a baseline level of strength, hand eye coordination, and the ability to recruit motor units rapidly to create power. These attributes can be enhanced through training, but some guys just don’t have it and never will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

One main concern with Shohei is that he is pulling everything. I would like to see him using all the fields and stop pulling his head so much.
