The GOP is not even the GOP anymore. They are more like a moderate Dem now and the Dems are not the Dems of old as they are more socialist now.

And to mock “what the big deal”? Im not even a democrat but I can see how easily your sickness has evolved into reality. They are the complete opposite of your post. More like “oh sh*t I better quarantine” if anything.
Enough already.....

Dems are taking safety precautions unlike the big ball of orange fur running whats left of your common sense.

Have a listen. ""Democratic NY state Governor Cuomo admitting privately that lockdowns were not good policy. So why do they still advocate for lockdowns? Because they’d rather play into fear than common sense. This will go down in history as some of the most egregious policy-making in history. They deliberately harmed millions of Americans simply because it made for more convenient talking points. As Republicans stood up for a more balanced approach, we were vilified by the media and opportunistic Democrats. They played on people’s fears for political gain, and they did it knowingly"" …

I don't really care what he's a "representative" of. I vote for him because of his policies and what he fights for. He could run as whatever he wanted to and he'd have my vote because he's the first president in a long time that puts America first, and truly does what he says he's going to do. It's crazy that he's done as well as he has considering how many road blocks the left has tried to put in his way. I've never seen anything like it. People acted like Obama had it bad and his 8 years was a sunset at the beach compared to Trump's (almost) 4 years. I'm not sure how it became heroic to hate America and sincerely wanting to see it destroyed, which seems to be all the left wants anymore.

It is what it is. True.

It didn't have to be what it is. It could have been different.

There is a very, very low chance I have spread the virus. Extremely low. Pretty much zero.

Yep, I hate seeing people die from overdoses and suicide and not getting the proper health care they need because they were told to not go to the hospital or else you'll get COVID and die.

Trump2020!
The first part of this is fair enough. I get it. I'm not going to get into the odd statements that follow because they're not relevant to the point I am trying to make.

Both parties have changed a lot in my lifetime. I supported the GOP that I grew up with. I like that party. I want it to come back. I just don't see Trump as part of that.

I support (among other things) fiscal responsibility, states' rights when possible, and respect for each other. These things were important to the GOP. They don't seem to be now.

Trump is disrespectful to women and minorities. Trump added a ton of money to the deficit. Trump only respects states' rights when it suits him. These are the things I see today. It saddens me.

No, it couldn't have been different aside from closing 100% of stores, and forcing everyone inside. Even then, wouldn't have mattered.

How do you know this? Are you telling me that nothing, not one thing could've been done that would've mattered?

You must be a pretty smart guy to know that. I'm impressed.

Let me ask you then, since I'm sure you know, would it have been different if we had done absolutely nothing? No travel ban, no lockdown, no CDC recommendations, no masks, no research funding? Has nothing made a difference? Can nothing make a difference? Nothing?

I understand we are in America and people have a choice. With that said, I would like to show some numbers:

The CDC has asked Iowa to limit gatherings of people to 25 or less
There was a rally last night in Iowa. Estimates put the crowd at 6,000
Current positivity rate in Iowa is 10%

Using these data (and at a 95% CI) of the 6,000 people there, approx. 554 to 646 people attending had the virus.

Yesterday I wrote - Covid has a R0 of 2-4 (in normal life - in a crowded environment like a rally, no idea, no doubt higher)

Approx 1100 - 1300 people were infected last night (statistically)

Just thought I would toss that out there

More people would have died with COVID, less would have died from suicide, overdoses, lack of hospital care. We just don't know what the number would have been, on either side.

So, we don't know how much, if any, different courses of action might have had. Okay, I can agree with that.

However, it's not like we (as a society) are unable to make some educated guesses. That's in fact what we did. We put some restrictions in place, funded some stuff, did a few things. We didn't always agree on the necessity or effectiveness of those things, but we did do plenty. And I believe it helped.

Things could've been worse. We did what we did to change the outcome. We'll never know how much, but obviously we did some good.

Things also could've been better. To imply absolute perfection in our response is naive.

It is what it is. It is what our actions guided it to be. It could've been better, it could've been worse.

That being said, let's make it better. Let's stop spreading it. Let's be, well, not like Trump.

You can't stop spreading it without 100% shutdowns. And that will not and should not happen. The whole goal was to not overwhelm hospitals... well, it's been 5 months, so what are we waiting for?

We can spread it less. We don't need rallies. We don't need superspreader events. They are unnecessary.

The goal was to not overwhelm hospitals. Yes. And we did okay with that, as well as could be expected. Now we have a new goal, to prevent as many deaths as possible.

It's been 5 months, yes. We are waiting for a vaccine.

100% shutdown is a tall ask. How about let's just do some common sense stuff and stop stuff like unnecessary rallies? How about even when we don't feel at risk, we consider the safety of others that are?

For a lot of Republicans Trump would not be our first choice, but when you see what the other side's choice is this election, it's an easy choice.
To me it's as simple as that.
