Supply and demand. Not ALL Acuna’s have been going up. There’s a reason why Pujols’ SP Authentic base sells for way more than his RC Auto from the same set and basically all his other RC Parallels from other sets including those /100 & /50. With all the options people eventually gravitate towards what they prefer. If Acuna only had say 5 2018 RC options total to choose from I think we would be seeing a totally different market but there are a LOT of options and most can not afford to or have the time to accumulate all of them. Demand (and desirability) has and probably will play a huge factor when this is the case.

Surprised that the Sapphire Base has gone up this fast but wouldn’t be surprised if its not done either. It’s a game changer because of the way it was produced and as mentioned above could be THE card that changes the perception of a market. There are somewhere around 3400 total Bowman Chrome First Auto Acunas. There are somewhere around 296 total Topps Chrome Sapphires. Both likely to have huge demand if Acuna performs. Put another way, there are more Blue Bowman Chrome Auto Acunas than there are TOTAL Chrome #698 Acunas.

There is that but I don’t think you’ll even need the interest of the registry collectors for this one.. The card does it on its own. That series 2 Acuna is just gorgeous. Add Chrome and make less than 300 and I think the demand outpace supply for as long as Acuna performs.

Yea, I sold a Pujols BGS 10 a little while ago and I think the base was still doing more than the Chrography at the time but I’m guessing the registry decision was recently and had a huge effect on the card? 9.5s now getting more than what I moved the BGS 10 at.

Anyway, talking about a different card now. Back to Sapphire Auto Acuna, its supply and demand that is causing the gap but if you think it’s ineffeciency it could be a buy at current prices. Fwiw, there are actually more Acuna Sapphire Autos made than Acuna Sapphire 698. More Blue 698s than Blue Autos but Less 698s then total Sapphire Autos.

acuna sapphire auto is no good i dont see any potential for roi there. as said demand is virtually non-existent. this non-existent demand will only decline as the high desired logo autos continue to rise to the top and new 19 autos overtake the lesser 18 products.

Market is polluted with auto'd RCs. How many base RCs out of mid- to high-end are non-auto'd now?

1. TC Sapphire
2. Transcendent

That's it. Personally, I'd rather have a very nice non-auto'd RC, than a decent auto'd RC.

Agreed... I sold all of my sticker autographs from update to buy sp and numbered refractors.

The on card autographs still have a lot of appeal to me though.

The topps finest auto will be interesting to track. It is on card and numbered to 99 and his only topps finest card as I do not believe there is a base.

Regarding the Sapphire Base RC, does anyone know why the huge price discrepancy between the Acuna and the Gleyber? Are they not made in similar print runs as both are photo variations of their respective card numbers?

ROY! Potential and Talent. The same reason why Acuna's BCP numbered Refractor Autos sell for way more than Gleyber's BCP numbered refractor autos. Look at the current selling price of BCP gold refractor auto/50 for both. The print run is the same (50) but the price difference is almost 2-3 times even though Gleyber's BCP is from 2015 whereas Acuna's BCP is from 2017

Still though...Gleyber sells for like $40 while Acuna is creeping up on $600. That's a pretty wide difference.

It is but Gleyber's value dropped quite a bit throughout the year. I don't put them in the same category yet. But at the price for the Gleyber you have a pretty good investment who knows what he will do next year.

Acuna's TC Sapphire were also selling for $100-150 before he was announced ROY. The prices really took off after that. It is all about demand plus some speculation. Imagine what will happen when everyone wants to own one but only limited supply exists. We are witnessing the same with Acuna's TC Sapphire #698 with its print run of approximately 300. Unfortunately, Gleyber's TC Sapphire does not get the same love and attention, which is reflected in its sale price.

I am sending it to BGS hoping for a BGS 9.5. It has a small defect on one of the rear corners, more like a tiny bump or dent. If not for that, I would have sent it to PSA for a shot at PSA 10.

My hodge podge Acuna rookie PC:

Acuna

Debating very hard whether I'll stop or not. Was only intended to be a rookie year PC. I bought more than is scanned but undisclosed condition issues from ebay caused a few throw aways.

Just hoping like everyone here he plays well
