I will say this: no matter what Betts does (outside of hitting .500+ rest of the way), if Acuna hits 40/70 or 30/80 or goes nuts and achieves 40/80 he will win MVP no question. We saw last year how with Judge vs Ohtani how much voters value historic stat totals.

No one has ever done 30/60 and he only needs 2 HRs and 2 SBs for that. 35/70 is realistic.

Lol what? I've been saying all along Betts is a big underdog and Acuna has been in the pole position for MVP all year. Do I HOPE Betts wins MVP? Yes, because I've staked a bet in the form of a MVP buyback gamble. But hoping is not the same as saying he deserves MVP right now. All I've been saying is that Betts has closed the gap.

Saying Acuna can put a stranglehold on MVP by hitting certain HR/SB totals is fanboying for Betts? Lol whatever man.

Hey, I'm not a dumb 100% fanboy. Hedging my MVP buyback gamble is a smart move.
Buy for 5-10% buyback value, sell for >20-25%...I'll do that all day long!

Another big game or 2 and those 2 lots on sale should be gone quick.

I'm about $155 in for my Mookie buyback gambit. Flipped a /99 refractor I picked up for $16 for $40 and if those 2 lots above sell, that's $50 more. Then if I offload another $60 or so, I'll be at breakeven with still over $1k in potential buyback credit sitting in my Mookie stack (currently 10x base/22x refractor/2x >100). I'll be fine letting those ride.
May offload more Mookie even after I break even depending on how the MVP race is going.

Also have 1 Ohtani refractor sitting in the drawer waiting to be redeemed later this year.

Deserve is such a strange word to use. If you are asking who I think should win it AS OF TODAY, I'd say Acuna. But still 5+ weeks of baseball left, so lots can change between now and the end of season. I mean hell, Betts went from +3300 to +500 in the matter of a week.

That is a pretty smart play. Admitting that you think Acuna will win it, not so much, but still overall you should do well since it doesn't matter in your plan if he does or not. I wondered why we had a sudden Mookie "fanatic" in the thread lol... This is the equivalent of you getting busted, being honest with the cops, and getting a ticket instead of going to jail. I applaud your honesty.

Going off the dictionary definition of the word deserve, I think there's a legit 3 players you could say are deserving. Ronald, Mookie, and Freddie.

Fangraphs in its explanation of WAR says that it should be used to seperate groups and not to be used as a precise number. The numbers they use in the example are actually close to the current numbers, saying that a 6.4 fWAR and a 6.1 fWAR cannot be distinguished from each other over the course of a season.

That said, the 3 I mentioned are in a class above the rest, all at 6+. Lindor is 4th at 5.3. Matt Olson if he could get that average above .280 I think could start pushing his way into the conversation. There's a lot of season left for things to shake out.

If Seager had not gotten hurt (oh, and if Ohtani didn't exist), he would make a strong MVP case. The fact he's put up 5.5 WAR in just 83 games played is insane. I know you're not supposed to really extrapolate WAR like you can other counting stats, but if he were healthy all season and you projected his WAR out, he'd be close to 8 WAR.
