2024 Summer Olympics Cards from Topps? - Page 19

My blaster case arrived. I'm only four boxes in but I wanted to share my thoughts so far. The cards themselves look very nice. Maybe a little too shiny. I have no previous experience with Topps Chrome cards. Is it normal for many of the cards to not lie flat? It's like they're warped or curved slightly. I'm really glad Topps labels the Refractor Parallel cards on the back. I have a hard time telling them apart.

Each of the four blasters had a numbered card in it. There are 30 cards in each blaster, not 28. The two Pink Parallel cards per blaster box are bonus cards, I guess. Two of the seven packs have five cards, with the fifth card being the Pink Parallel card.

I wish there were some middle tier insert sets. There are four that are easy to pull: 1984 Topps (1:4 hobby, 1:4 value packs), Flames (1:6 hobby, 1:6 value packs), For Pride and Country (1:3 hobby, 1:4 value packs), and To Paris With Love (1:6 hobby, 1:6 value packs). Then two that are one per hobby case: Athlete Nouveau and Chasing the Rings (both 1:145 hobby, 1:281 value packs). And finally the impossible to pull Exposé (1:1,209 hobby, 1:3,209 value packs). I guess Ledecky Legacy is the closest to a middle tier insert set (1:12 hobby, 1:13 blaster).

I am not a fan of Topps removing odds from both the blaster boxes and packs. Reading the odds on the spreadsheet published on the Topps website is not as easy as looking at the box.

Finally, Topps has the weirdest quality control. The fourth box I opened had one pack with only three cards but an extra pack with five cards so the total number of cards was correct.

I cannot believe how many cards are already listed on eBay. 3,500+ when searching for “2024 Topps Olympics” in the Sports Trading Cards > Trading Card Singles category. Only 477 sold so far, however.

Either a lot more breakers got their cases early or folks close to retailers had speedy shipping or local card shops were cleared out fast.

Card shops sold it fast and it’s a product once you open a box or two you want to open it all. I’m going through my case and my head is spinning

Opening is the easy and fast (and fun) part. It’s getting the cards listed on eBay that takes time. I suppose people who do this for a living have the process streamlined.

I received my pre-order of blasters today from one of the big 3. I see D and A has not shipped yet, shows the date as 8/2

Opened 2 blasters...results in the other sports break section, but I got a chasing the ring die cut for Xander in the first one and a Konnor McClain worn relic #/25 in the other

Though very different, there’s a lot of similarities between this product and 2023 Topps WBC as well.

Opening these reminds me of the days prior to 2017 opening baseball product. Low PR, fairly good quality, and decent value. Can complete a Master with one case and the sets carry value.

This is definitely one of the “bones” Topps throws to us. There’s only a few a year but when you get them they are undoubtedly enjoyable.
