Correct MLB is after 10 years for full pension, but there are multiple different levels. For example players get healthcare for life after one day |

The first step is arguing about who is paying for the caterer.

After the entire NCAA tournament was canceled due to Covid, and most of the major sports in the US were more or less shut down, I don't think a lockout would have the same impact that it would have 3+ years ago.
Plus this way we get to enjoy minor league baseball and that's really what I care most about. If something was going to screw up the minor league season, I'd be more bothered by this. They will get it figured out. They already got a dose of what it's like with no money coming in a couple of years ago when they had to push back opening day, doubt they want that happening twice in 3 years. |

Figured I'd add this here. Not mentioned was the prime rib was overcooked, the duck confit was dry, and they ran out of beluga whale caviar
The owners made this core economics proposal to the players' union as scheduled on Thursday, but it sounds like the details presented within did not serve to advance the negotiations to any substantial degree. If any degree at all. MLB proposed a higher minimum salary and more money for players with multiple years of service time, per Jon Heyman of Audacy Sports, but the overall offer was seen as "disappointing." Passan writes that the question now is "how soon the MLBPA counters" and adds that "spring training starting on time is in peril." As of this moment, pitchers and catchers are (very tentatively) scheduled to report to camps in Florida and Arizona around the middle of February. Opening Day is, also perhaps tentatively, set for March 31. |

Late to the party... what happened today? Are we closer or further from a deal?

No movement. The owners made a bunk-ass proposal today. The players will counter with a bunk-ass one of their own within a couple of weeks. Then they will get down to business in early February. I would not worry any more than I have been about a delayed start to spring training until a few days after pitchers and catchers are due to report. This was always going to go down to the wire.

Sadly I have a feeling neither side is in all that much a hurry to start the 2022 season. Between the owners not wanting to give up anything, and the players feeling they got shafted the last negotiation, I dont think anyone is willing to compromise any time soon. Add in the latest round of the virus rearing its ugly head lately, and I think were sitting til way after the seasons supposed to start. Hope Im wrong though.

The season will start on time. Before we know it, everyone will be talking about how good the Mets look, and then soon after, the conversation will turn to how quickly their season went into the gutter. Just like every other year.

Just asked my friend, who’s son plays for the Mets, what the thinking is about the season starting on time. “ No , the owners want to get rid of arbitration and make a salary cap. Very much like the NBA. Jd would normally be booking his stuff to arrive at ST in mid feb. union told them don’t bother due to not being anywhere close.”

If we go back to the mlb pravda article it's pretty clear they're not talking the same language.
Per sources, the union’s primary objective has been a substantial overhaul of the sport’s economic system, including three core components that have been part of the CBA for decades: six-year free agency, Super-Two eligibility and revenue sharing. MLB’s proposals prior to the lockout included a number of concessions to players, including an NBA-style draft lottery, a universal DH, an increase to the minimum player salary, an increase in the CBT (competitive balance tax) threshold and the elimination of the qualifying offer system, which would remove draft-pick compensation from all free agents. MLB had also offered a 14-team postseason format in a proposal that would have increased the CBT threshold from $210 million to $214 million, eventually climbing as high as $220 million. The union’s most recent proposal prior to the lockout called for a $245 million CBT threshold and an expanded postseason format that included 12 teams. Players want changes to free agency, service time manip, teams not competing and just banking rev share money. Owners offer changes to draft, dh, min sal. So far, I havent seen any proposal from the owners that changes how service time works. They did have that proposal to replace arbitration with fwar. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
