The real winners will be the ones buying the SP cards in 4 months time and not the silver packs. If you want a cheap SP, just wait a bit. Heck, you can probably buy one of the many copies of SP cards as a PSA 10 for cheaper than a silver pack.

Yep, let the degenerates chase these. Because when the dust settles and there's way more of them to go around than we possibly need, they'll be falling over themselves to undercut each other on ebay.

My prediction for the silver packs:
Topps is going to open cases of 2022 and use the hits(color, autos, etc) in these packs as well as the SP RCs.

They have to do something like this to help the PR nightmare. If majority of people get a base card of Charlie Morton and Jason Heyward it will do even more damage.

Are you folks sure that the silver packs could contain something other than the SPs?

"The short print parallels will be randomly inserted in these packs" could just mean that there are 5 SPs and so a pack of 2 will contain a random selection of those 5. Could just be stating the obvious...

There's no way they're going to do that. They're going to take the most cost-effective route which is packing cards that were theoretically printed and just sitting somewhere (maybe print a handful more to fully meet packaged boxes)

I think there's no way they include anything but the SPs, it wouldn't make sense from a cost-standpoint.

The SPs can be considered as SPs as long as there are less of those than the regular base (even just 1 less...), right? Would make sense for Topps to print as many of the SPs as they can to try to make people happy, regardless of what the original print run intentions were. As others have said, would create another problem if these SPs seem hard to hit out of the silver packs.

Agreed- I think people are overthinking this.

The people thinking these are going to have 2 sp rookies in every pack are overthinking this. You were not guaranteed an sp rookie by buying a box of chrome, much less 2 of them. Topps is not going to give you 2 short print rookies for their mistake. Most packs will have base chrome cards in them and the occasional pack will have an SP.

While I agree, the smart thing for Topps would be to guarantee at least one of the cards is an SP. What does it matter to them?

They are in damage control now though. What was originally intended for the SP print run is probably out the window.

Why wouldn't they? What do they care.

What's cheaper: printing sheets of 5x cards and calling it a day?

Or some other insane proposals I see here like breaking open cases of existing product to use as filler or reprinting the whole set to use as filler.

This trash is called extended base for a reason.

I'm sure Topps wants this issue to just go away. Making some of the silver packs with no SPs would not make the issue go away.

If they hand out SPs like Oprah, there might be a little grumbling at first but most people will just move on.

I’m not saying it makes sense from a cost standpoint. I’m just saying it doesn’t read like that. I can read their statement a thousand times, and it doesn’t sound like they’re just going to give 24 so called short printed rookie cards for every case of Topps chrome. It doesn’t sound like they are and I think people thinking they’re getting 2 short printed rookies for every box they purchase are going to be upset to find out they’re not getting that. I could be wrong, however, it just doesn’t sound like that from their statement. Full disclosure…I’ve purchased 0 hobby or jumbo boxes and been in 0 breaks. I have 1 lite box coming my way.

Pretty certain "SP" is a super loose term here, Tatis/Eloy/Vlad/Alonso were all referred to the same way and you'd get like 2-3 a hobby box.

Last time they were really SPs was like 2015 (besides the "Kelenic SSP" that didn't exist last year)

Any confirmation on if lite boxes are entitled to the rookie packs? I was thinking about grabbing a few in that case.

I get this feeling you're all going to be extremely disappointed with the "SP's" anyways, but i hope for the cost, I am wrong

People are excited they may be in every pack (which they wont)...but do they realize that if everyone has them...there's no value?

Right…they then essentially become part of the base set. If (and they won’t) Topps included 2 in every silver pack…a case would yield essentially 24 “sp” rookies. You would in theory get 4-5 Julio rookies per case. Do people really want that? How would that make things better?

Either way I think ppl are going to be disappointed.

1.). Packs only contain SPs. Yay but then SPs are incredibly watered down. Yuck.
2.). Packs randomly contain SPs. Yay for rarity but then most ppl are getting silver packs with base? Yuck.

If you're interested in picking up some SPs, like others have said, just wait and see what happens. No one really knows what's going to be in the packs yet and how many "SPs" were printed.

This would have been a great opportunity for Topps to be transparent with the print runs and exactly what was going to be in the packs. But instead, Topps continues to be vague, even after making a colossal mistake.

They won't have any value, but there are a lot of collectors that want them. And this will be very good for them.

Of course they are. Topps took a major problem and actually made it worse! That's pretty tough to do.

Cool. Everyone should collect what they like. But collectors weren't ripping $300 hobby boxes.

Oh of course. This is a huge error by Topps, and I'd be pretty mad if I was into these boxes for what they cost last week.
