Forgot about the mention of picking in the solicitations. That would be an interesting twist to this.

I can't imagine it will be this way, but it would be cool if it were set up like a Chinese Food menu: You pick one from Group A (the best of the best), two from Group B (great players, but not amazing value-wise) and two from Group C (the Justin Uptons of the checklist).

I'm sure we'll get some "clarifications" this morning that will sweeten the pot. In the meantime, I'm offering five random autos from my collection for only $800! Save $200! Send me a pm if interested, but ACT FAST as this DEAL may not be available tomorrow.

I was just thinking of how this is called the Brooklyn Collection...is someone selling us a bridge?

I think the Topps Now program in general may have given Topps a sense that, at $1,000, this product was fairly priced. For some reason, Now autographs almost always sell out at what I consider super-inflated prices. I think the people who bought into the Montgomery Club membership aren't all Topps Now buyers so they are surprised by the price tag.

Again, I suspect Topps will sweeten the pot due to low sales. But I think five random autographs from the checklist is exactly what they intended originally. And some people bought in without even seeing a checklist?! Why do you guys hate money so much?

Finally got my email late last night.

I can assure you if I spend $1000 for 5 cards I'm getting Will Clark, McCutchen, Larkin, Joey Votto, and Yadier Molina

$200 back at best

But of course, like a degenerate, I'm probably going to do it.

I agree... They don't leave "anything on the bone" when they price the Now autos. When you buy them, they are pretty close to the price you would pay on Ebay already (If not more). As understood so far...whoever buys in on these, there will be a buyer or 2 that comes out alright because they got the right combination of cards, but the vast majority of buyers will be left with cards way under the value of what they paid.

I agree with this....I myself stopped buying anything but the /99 as a /5 unless and Astro doesn't really add anything to a card from the Now program...pack pulled is different I suppose but it is after all just a color variation. Still holding my breath...

It is quite a price tag...for 5 autographs that might all be /25

Also as someone mentioned...no way they sort them and send you what they think you like. There is more to this...early buyers will be rewarded for their blind faith I would hope.

Maybe first come first served means you get first pick...So Matt who bought right off the bat gets the first draft...Okay Matt who do you take with your first draw? I'll guess the 1/1 Ohtani#2 is say me...I want the Hoskins 1/1 that is worth the price of admission. Who's next?

And then so on till everyone gets 5...maybe that is it. Spit-balling here guys

Yeah, I still don't have the e-mail. I've already made up my mind unless there is some hidden gem in this $1000 mess, but if I did want to do it, I still have no way to accept. I've already checked my spam too, nothing there.

I still feel like I'll be happy with the $199 I spent, but the execution on this 'big' collection is horrible. Everything is serial numbered, so there really is nothing to the whole 'limited' piece either. Numbered to 25 is numbered to 25, no matter how small the initial audience. How hard would it have been to do a base set of the cards that were autographed and have it be limited to 500 or whatever?

I think Topps needs to tell us more about these cards....What makes these special/high end? Just the price that they charge? Coated in gold? Diamond encrusted toploaders? What?

Are you talking about a fantasy-draft type of deal? I bought in pretty quickly as well - before seeing the checklist and specifics - but still think this would be pretty weird for them to do. I'm really at a loss for words about what this will end up looking like but I bought in knowing the stakes are high for Topps. If they manage to turn this into a winning proposition, it bodes well for future releases along this line. If it's a complete nightmare or even a break-even, so-so release, the potential damage to the brand would seem to be high. Call me naive, but I'd assume Topps factored all of that potential exposure into the release and we'll all be pleasantly surprised.

There's no chance that they'd do a fantasy style draft or pick your auto or anything... You guys are just reaching.

Sure that would be great for the first people but what about the last people that dropped a grand for junk? The program would die even faster that way.

I doubt Topps "factored" it in originally, but I bet they're meeting right now to figure out what to do to sweeten the pot. That's why we haven't heard a peep yet. I'm sure when we hear they'll just say they are "clarifying" the original terms, not altering them . . .

Remember, Jeeves and the other Topps folks are lurking here and hitting the refresh button constantly. So they know they flubbed this one. And they've probably noticed that only like five people were crazy enough to purchase with the info released so far.

If Topps is reading this, respond to my customer service and BBB complaints. Thanks.

I did expect the high-end product to be good and planned on purchasing it. So I am a little annoyed that I flushed some theoretical value to the membership, but it was a gamble. Just hoping to come out even on the sets everyone gets for $200 now.
Yeah, the downside was minimal. Sell the sets and you'll get most or all of the $200 back.

But of course we were rooting for the upside potential... just didn't happen. No biggie though.

Just from a branding perspective, though... it's so odd they do the $1000 set first, before we've seen a single thing from the membership. "Welcome! Want to spend another $1000 before seeing anything?"

The only "twist" I can see on this high end offering would be similar to the way they did the players weekend Topps Now relics. I didn't follow it closely (Joe could verify if this is true) but if I recall, they didn't sell out and scratched some of the worst cards you could get. Like the unnumbered ones or something.

So everyone had a much better chance of getting the nice low numbered patches and stuff.

I could see them doing that for this? If they only sell 382 boxes, then they print only what they sold, starting with the 1/1's, then #/5, then #/10... so the #/25 ones might not even exist or if they do it could be in low quantity. So that way whoever DID buy at 1K is going to get a lot of low numbered stuff.

Because if it's only available to members, then I can't see how they'd print it all? If they keep offering it over and over and it's not selling out, then it's going to completely lose all prestige from this "highest end offering ever"
