Yeah Update should be a $500 to $750 set, I love the rip but it's far too expensive for the value it provides at the moment.

Maybe, but as an alternative reference point, I am tracking some players with 4-5 already sold through eBay... and sure not 100% get listed

Had one come in yesterday that looked decent online but in reality looks like it was involved in a card accident. And same w/ SSP I haven’t pulled trigger on one yet as I’ve not seen one w/ decent Top Left corner. 10’s in any of these are gonna be slim pickings!
So then, let's assume that none the Vlad SSPs made it out of the factory unscathed, and thus they all exhibit subpar condition: is the card even worth collecting? I'm going to say "yes, to a degree," because it'll be sought after for set completion and it's the flagship SSP of a superstar (assuming, of course, that Vlad continues on his expected progression). But it won't generate nearly the same excitement as there is for the Acuna and Soto SSP cards.

Vlad is the only 2019 big 4 member to have a Flagship SP or SSP. Keep that in mind.

I personally believe that the condition of these cards will hamper future value growth. This board to the contrary, the market is still dominated by condition/grading and without PSA 10s out there to lead the charge in value growth, the card will suffer.

Is the number of NNO Vlads produced known? Any (semi)educated guesses out there?

Hiura has an SP and SSP, though his collectibility ceiling is probably similar to Anthony Rendon’s—at best, maybe similar to Bregman.

But yes, the absence of an SSP/SP for Tatis, Eloy or the Polar Bear is quite notable. That’s actually why I’m focused on the flagship mystery redemption autos of Vlad and Eloy. They’re rare and novel, adding an element to the flagship parallel craze. It doesn’t help fill the Tatis void, though.

After reviewing his IG for sometime, I have to say I'm not overly impressed with his off-season training.

He appears to be in the DR with a family friend, I'm shocked that the Jays aren't investing more in his development.

Everyone uses Instagram for different purposes. I’m not sure why posting about being with a family friend in DR means he’s not working out?

I agree. Is he supposed to be chained to a treadmill?

When the guys you are training with are also fat, you only have to lose a few lb's to look skinnier

I'm not sure many SSPs are collected in an attempt to complete a 'set' of them. Player Collecting dominates the hobby followed by team collecting and set collecting firmly in third place. Set collectors do complain about photo variations making an attempt to collect a set of every variant of them a minor to major challenge - but I don't think very many of them ever even try it with the SSPs in particular. But fans of a player definitely want those photo variant cards. I don't think that makes any difference to the overall total demand though, which will have a basic strength no matter what, but it will flow from low print run and player performance much more than set collecting.

As for whether someone still wants a specific SSP if it can't be obtained in PSA 10 - if that is someone's calculus, I think a recent scroll I took through Shohei Ohtani RCs (simplistic technique of COMC search w/checking "Rookie Card" box, including "Sold Out") showed me quite a bit - there are 165 of them as of 2 minutes ago and 1,491 if you just check "Rookie Year". If a certain low print run variant RC has a low to nil % available in PSA 10, well that won't be true of the many, many other options including many in low, valuable print runs. VG jr has a current count of 66 such cards via same search technique.

I do like photo variant cards quite a bit and am interested in opinions on them.
