Let’s see one of your INVESTMENT Wax Boxes - I’ll start....

I got back into collecting January ‘23, started hot and heavy ripping packs, and quickly ended up with stacks of cards worth much less than I paid for the stuff. That’s if I made the effort to sell all of the $1-$3 cards. It didn’t take long before I realized that, while opening is a rush, it’s much more prudent to keep sealed. It’s like owning the slot machine, as long as it’s sealed someone will be willing to pay to pull the one armed bandit. Love this thread and appreciate everyone sharing, it really helped turn me to the light and start stacking wax. I’ll share a photo of the admittedly modern collection here soon.

I wanted to ask the group, do you think there’s any value in keeping the single Topps boxes in the bubble wrap? It’s obviously not great for display, but do you think it adds to the appeal knowing it came directly from the company? When buying single loose boxes online I often feel like they’re selling me the one left over after they already grabbed the Ohtani 1/1 case hit but wasn’t sure if this was just me. If I hear a general consensus that it doesn’t matter I’d be happy to rip them out and improve the eye appeal of the collection.

*Important to say that if I was buying boxes with the intent of reselling them for profit ("investing," as the thread title indicates) then I would protect my investment appropriately. Especially for newer products that have individual packaging, it makes sense to keep them factory sealed so the future buyer has more confidence in the item. I'm sharing my thoughts below as someone who enjoys sealed boxes as part of my personal collection.

I keep my high value boxes in the open, on display.

No one goes in that room but me and it's climate controlled, locked and secure.

Anyone else seeing an uptick in prices for unopened from the late 90's to the mid to late 2000's? (roughly up to 2010?)

I've been trying to add to the collection, but keep getting outbid on boxes that were previously obtainable.


Is it the recent breaker fad busting so called "vintage" wax accounting for the price uptick?

I know, 2019 BSKB is tough. I like Zion but he's always hurt and Ja gets hurt too, plus the reputation. 2021-22 BSKB seems a little tough too.

I’ll get more into shortly, but 2021 NFL has been a disaster relative to its hype of ‘greatest QB rookie class ever’. It really only gave us Trevor Lawrence, who’s above average but not great

Topps tried many different packages.
We call this one a super cello pack. It has the gum on the bottom. They tested this packaging
With football in 1978. I guess they liked it since
They continued in 1979, 1980, and 1981.

1979 baseball is tough to find...I never was able to obtain a full box of these so I got a single pack instead.
