That was an error.
I mean, I don't think they ever confirmed it as an error, but it must be since his RC year was 2018.

I like your avatar! Neat looking.

Topps being Topps. Ohtani rookies are all 1983 based.

From the current ESPN article up right now...I find this interesting (basically suggesting what Ohtani is doing is way more impressive that what Babe Ruth did)

"Indeed, as others have pointed out, Ruth's time as a hitter and pitcher were short-lived, essentially part of the 1918 season and the first half of 1919. In 1918, he began the season as a pitcher, not appearing at all in the field in April. As he began playing more first base and left field in May and June, he pitched less, starting just once in June and three times in July. He did pitch regularly in August, with the Red Sox in a pennant race, although the season ended in early September due to World War I. In 1919, he started just once in August and twice in September as he shifted to a full-time hitting role."

For those that collect Ohtani auto's can you please give me your opinion if you think this auto is real or forged? Seller has 3 negatives of over 500 on feedback.

This one should work!

Seller sent me a message that it was sent to the Angels PR department and that is what was returned to him. To my eye is look similar to what I have seen on authentic cards.

Probably between about 300-500. Good buy for the price.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't look right to me.

Wouldn't that make it an SSP? I thought SP was printed in thousands (normally less than 10,000) and SSP was printed in hundreds or less.

You are right that this one seems to be more rounded in stroke than the unauthenticated one (but the pen density looks the same which normally means the same person writing).

The length of the lines (1st down stroke, and second down stroke) is what gets me and then the second part where it looks like an 8 in my image looks completely different, but perhaps after signing thousands of these things and using a thicker pen he just didn't put in max effort?

Default ✹The PERENNIAL Shohei Ohtani Thread✹

It looks a lot like these….which is the thicker marker style.

It now looks like that one has an extra set of zig-zag lines in it.

Yeah, now that looks more like OPs. Looks like he has some variation in his auto and then of course the pen size.

Any verdict yet? I contacted the seller and he said if I did not want to go through with the purchase that he would refund me the money.
