Welps, I can't believe that I'm writing this, but this past Friday, I sold my 17' Optic Red Mahomes auto /50.

I will greatly miss that card but Mahomes' prices were too high to ignore. The sale of that card allowed me to pick up an absolute grail card.

Living in KC made it even more difficult, as I love both the Chiefs and Mahomes.

At the National this year, I watched a father and son count out 18k in cash to buy a Brady Contenders Rookie auto. It hit me then, that Mahomes prices were a bit too high. For the price of some nice Mahomes rookie autos you could go buy the best of all time.

If Mahomes doesn't win a SB this year or next...I think his stuff starts to steadily drop...not drastically...but future SB's are baked into his current prices.

I'll still be rooting for both him and the Chiefs obviously.

Alt has a 3-colour flawless RPA /10 ending Thursday. I feel they get less value so will be interesting to see where it lands.

Tons of other high end items from national it appears.

126k and 32 days left for the cracked ice auto …with regards to mahomes cards, the cards that matter in the long haul are scarce cards…lower numbered and sought after ones = scarce. All it takes is a few collectors battling it out for their PC…I always said, Prizm color and optics stuff have a peak ..there’s too much supply…reason gold Prizms sell for a lot is because a lot are in strong hands and there are a few in supply…as for NT /99, just look at LeBrons exquisite RPA …there are a lot of strong holders …but also if you have a high grade or nice patch , these will be to fight for…if the patch is unique enough, it’s basically a 1/1..which will command high battling for

For what it's worth, I think you made the right decision. If you were THAT attached to it you wouldn't have sold. And at least you can justify it by getting a grail!

Alt sales hurt the hobby.

A good number of people intentionally don't do business with them because of their shady past but their sales become comps nonetheless and drag the market down.

I think that definitely effects it, but the thicker cards are harder to grade

I know exactly how you feel! It's hard to say where this hobby is going. There is so much money in trash players that I can still see more consolidating into Mahomes happening for awhile. It's fascinating and exciting.

Yeah that's why it's interesting. I've read that thread multiple times, but didn't realize he was Temp Suspended. It must have been in December 2022, because last activity was 12/11/22.

That was true 2 years ago but not anymore. Alt is setting record highs every auction now on a regular basis. They've turned it around. (just facts, not my personal opinion on him)

Moved my Optic Contenders BGS 9.5 10 auto (didn't deserve it), 9 corner grade for $17K a few weeks ago prior to national.

I did not want to move it but life expenses coming up and wanted to raise cash for it.

Will have to rebuy a nice Patty on a dip. Did just let a 6 figure offer expire on my Ohtani Orange which was not really stressful, but kinda mind boggling thinking about it.

Yeah not sure about that, do you have data to share? I have been tracking quite a few auctions and the total price is def landing below even ebay.

I guess I'm just looking at the higher end sales. There's hundreds of low end sales I admit I'm ignorant about sales prices.
