Good god if George was still alive Boone would have been fired simply for his record against the Red Sox this year much less all the rest of the crap play this teams does.

At least they avoided the sweep. I'm surprised Williams didn't give the game away.

Chisholm and Grisham both homer twice as Yankees beat Red Sox 7-2 to avoid 4-game sweep

Hate to say it, but this team needed a Bregman. Knows how to actually hit not just swing for the fences. Plus he would teach them how to cheat.

I said in the beginning of the season multiple times that this year was huge for Volpe in terms of his future. He has failed miserably. I feel for the kid because it seems like he truly cares, but if you can't hang... you can't hang.

So what's the solution? Free agency? Trade? George Lombard Jr? It's not that simple, unfortunately.

Free agency is pretty bare with the only notable SS being Bo Bichette and Ha-Seong Kim. Both come with their own caveats.

A trade could potentially be interesting. I would eye Zach Neto, Ezequiel Tovar, and Masyn Winn. I don't believe any of their respective teams see them as untouchable and they wouldn't demand the entire prospect capital that Yanks could give. Neto would provide a boost offensively while Tovar and Winn would be more defense first SS.

Lombard simply is not ready. I believe he had a hot start this year but now sports a .677 OPS in AA ball over 90 games. He will need another full year AT LEAST until there's any sort of decision made on him.

Regardless, any of these solutions would require the Yanks to pretty much signal to the fans, the team, and to Volpe himself that they are moving on. We've seen it happen, of course, but it's rare and the org doesn't like operating that way.

I don't see the Angels dumping Neto. Volpe has to go. Its 1800 pa now with a 85 wRC+ and a .222/.284/.380 slash. He's not a major league player.

The good thing about signing Bo to play shortstop is he has indicated that he is willing to move to 2B. Jazz is a free agent in 2027 so if George Lombard Jr. is ready for the show after 2026, they could move Bo over to 2nd to replace Chisholm. And when he's not having an injury year like last year, Bo can hit for average and has some pop.

What’s weird is you would think with the Yankees being 5-13 combined against the Red Sox and Bluejays that they would be dead and buried and out of playoff competition. Yet they are only a half game behind the Red Sox for the first wildcard spot and have a decent sized 3 and a half 4 game lead to hold off the challengers for the last wildcard spot. 70-60 would’ve or should’ve been expected without Cole for the season and Gil for most of it. It’s just the way they have gotten to this point that is frustrating, yes we all hate the fact that Boston owns them this year but they also won 8 straight against the 2009 Yankees and we know how that ended. I truly expect an early exit in the playoffs but the schedule for their final 32 games is relatively easy. There really is no dominant team this year or so it seems. I would like to think this is the year Judge has a monster playoffs and becomes the Captain they need they have good enough pitching if they stay healthy and the bullpen can work out the kinks. Being one whose mood is closely tied to how the Yankees are doing being happy about last nights win could be seen as delusional but seeing who they play for the next 7 games it could be a springboard. On the bright side it’s not like blowing a 14 game lead in the start of August in 1978 staging a comeback to force a one game play in with the home field advantage and then losing to be sent home for the season. With the new playoff format teams are allowed to suck and still have a chance to win the World Series. I don’t agree with the new format but it is what it is.

If nothing happens with the rotation or rainouts, we should see Fried verse the Blue Jays when we go September 7th.

Yeah Bellinger is the only one who adjusts to the count. Dominguez, Volpe, Wells, Rice, Jazz, Grisham all swing the same way no matter what.

But still F Bregman. He's the perfect Red Sock with his punchable ferret face.

They have 20 games against crap teams. I say they win 15 of them; maybe less if Judge doesn't remember how to hit. The other 12 are against Blue Jays, Boston, Houston, and Detroit; all playoff teams. I'm willing to bet they lose the majority of those.

Some team below us will get hot. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't make it. Part of me hopes that it happens so Hal can't defend Cashman/Boone. This is one of the worst Yankee teams I have seen in over a decade.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. I know everything is doom and gloom recently but are we really talking about getting rid of the Yankees' 2nd or 3rd best position player?

Do I wish he put the bat on the ball more? Sure.

But from the perspective of productivity out of the 2B position... he's top 5 in baseball.

If you want to stay out of the 'analytic numbers' then he's 2nd in HR, 2nd in SB, 2nd in OPS, and an above average fielder out all the 2b in baseball. Not to mention he played out of position for a considerable amount of time.

He is one mental step away from being arguably the best 2B in baseball and that is his tendency to chase/swing+miss. If is Whiff% and Chase% raise to AVERAGE from where it is currently in 2026, he will be offered multiple 10+ year contracts.

There's a lot more important things that the Yanks need to figure out for 2026 than Jazz.

I say they split the 12 games against the 4 you listed so 21-11 would have them 91-71, not great by Yankees standards but not horrible considering a lot of the blown saves earlier in the year. Maybe the 12-1 demolition by Boston is what it took to wake them up. Other than Soto being gone I feel this team is actually better than last years that made it to the World Series.

The problem with all these players is when they do something incredibly stupid they don't own up to it. Yeah over 162 Jazz puts up numbers, but he also does really stupid stuff and then says he wouldn't do it differently. Enough with the analytics, they need players with the right mentality, accountability, etc.

They already had a second baseman similar in Gleyber Torres we don’t need the same thing going forward. Jazz like I said seems like a conflict waiting to happen. You make good points about him but I also made good points about Gleyber when he was with the team. When in their hot streaks both Gleyber and Jazz are more than capable unfortunately their hot streaks never came in the playoffs but Jazz only had last year so the jury is still out on him.

Very much agreed. So many fundamental errors to go along with the physical errors. Throwing to the wrong base as done by Dominguez numerous times getting doubled off of base not once but twice by Wells and the catchers throwing to second as witnessed by Rice in the 6-3 loss to Boston. This team gives the opposing teams so many extra outs it’s not funny. Playing the way they have it’s a wonder they are 10 games over .500.

Simple question do you guys think it was easier to win a World Series before the playoffs were expanded or is it easier now where you just have to have one of the 10 best records to qualify for the playoffs.

Is that a viable reason to dump one of the best producers at that position? I gave you straight stats, not analytics, and all you can think of was a baserunning gaff from 3 weeks ago? Like, we're talking about a guy that could legitimately win the Silver Slugger and go 30/30 if he gets hot in September...

Gleyber and Jazz are 2 completely different ballplayers. Jazz embodies power+speed+defense. Gleyber is more contact+discipline (and bad defense). Not sure how you came to the conclusion that they are similar.

If you're a really good team it was easier previously since it was less random, but in general its easier now since there are more opportunities to win.

He also airmailed the ball to the stands. Jazz is one of the best 2B because there's a lack of good 2B right now in the league. He's hitting .239/333/.484. He's second in fwar at the pos, but lots of teams are better with us and they don't have him. The issue is the rest of the team should be better so you don't need to rely on your 2B to produce. The team is just built backwards. Overall week 1B/3B/LF which should be three of your bigger run producer then go defense up the middle.

So your issue isn't with Jazz, but how the rest of team is built.

Should the Yankees have dumped Cano after finishing 2nd in 2010 because he's a 2B?

Just look at other playoff teams

Det: Gleyber
Tor: Clement
Hou: Altuve/Dubon/Rodgers
Bos: I guess its David Hamilton now
NYY: Jazz
SEA: Young/Moore
MIL: Turang
PHI: Stott
LAD: Edman
SD: Croenworth?
CHC: Hoerner
NYM: McNeil/Batty

Would I take Jazz first in fantasy, sure, but you can have a good team without him if you build it correctly.
