Put my $200 down for 2023. Much better than the $600 buy in last year.

Really? I don't want to derail this thread, but I didn't think a 1099 allowed you to write off expenses. Thought that was just for registered businesses and not hobbies.

Compared to past years its insane how long it was still available. Yet still it sold out in less than 3 hours. Still decent.

I was at work so I didn't get a chance to buy. If I had, I probably would have passed. I'm sure in 3 months I'll be lamenting not having the chance.

Based on thousands of available memberships only lasting a few hours I think everyone that got in will be happy. I don't think at 1 per person/address Topps sold that many that quickly. If it was truly 1 per these would have lasted the full 2 days. No doubt the big groups now have over 50% of the MC memberships. Topps Platinum members and big groups probably over 75% of the memberships. We all know Topps and Panini won't screw them. So in turn if you're in they won't screw you. Guaranteed to be worth the $200 membership and probably way more.

What you're not factoring in is last year way less memberships were available for new memberships and the bots wanted memberships last year.

Default Montgomery Membership 2023 and beyond

When Fanatics starts branding Basketball and Football cards in the Topps, Bowman, Sapphire, Chrome etc brands in the future, the membership will be more valuable over time. Not sure if this starts in 2024 or 2025.

If you want to deduct something like this as a business expense, then yes, you would have to turn your hobby into a "business". That would allow the use of Schedule C which allows deduction of various business expenses. That would mean going forward the necessity of tracking all financial activities associated with the new "business". In this example, since this membership fee is for 2022 and if you want to deduct for it, that means your hobby became a business as of 1/1/22.

I heard there was a $600 option for new people?

I renewed. I've spent more on worse. Topps will keep making the membership at least worth $200 if not more. If there are 10,000 memberships, that's a bonus of about $1.75M to their bottom line. Plus I'm sure there is some kind of psychological correlation to members buying more product than non-members since they're already in the club.

This is a no-brainer for Topps to keep making it worth it to renew. But, it's Topps, so they can definitely screw it up...

If this really happens and members can get exclusive licensed product for football and basketball that would be amazing.

My guess is Fanatics will figure out a way to have separate memberships for each sport. That would probably maximize $$$

This is exactly why I joined this year. Just on the hope of seeing some type of NFL chrome product if/when the Panini deal is closed. Even if not, picking up some of the other stuff will be worth it.

New MC Member here...

As an orioles fan excited about 2023 product with Adley, Gunnar and maybe Grayson. Assuming they will be in the stamped complete set?

Lol nothing you're not factoring in? How about that literally thousands of more memberships opened up because they banned all people that had more than 1 membership? That isn't a factor? How about that all bots were going for this last year and none or virtually none were this year? That's not a factor. Yeah ok.

If you see them in 2023 regular series 1 or 2, then will be in the stamped complete set (the stamped set cards is suppose to mirror the regular factory set with the exception of all cards with the 586 stamp on each card).

Last year new members cost $600 (was $300 to renew). I was one of those people who bought one, and it really wasn't worth it since they booted me from the club (for having multiple accounts). I kept most things and didn't buy the topps series 1 first edition (which is now below cost) so not happy about that.

Had to make a new account to get in this year, but at least I am still in the club just have half the memberships I did this past year. Hopefully they have something added to the presale list to make it worth it.

Congratulations to all of the new MC members.

Toppsnatics booting those who abused the multi-account loophole is the best thing they've done in years.

Abused? Topps literally encouraged and told us to do it if we wanted more memberships. Many people have mentioned it. People calling in that couldn't order on certain accounts and were told by Topps to create new accounts and could buy as many as you want. Some people in first two years bought tons of memberships on the same account. They didn't even have to use additional accounts.

I would bet that 95% of people that bought MC through 2020 had multiple accounts. It was easily available those years. Any person could have bought 100 memberships if they wanted them.
