The higher the cost, typically the lower the printing numbers. As long as you’re rich, you’ll be fine

I think these were big in '19...I didn't read back too many old threads, but the series 2 rookies were available in purple (eloy/tatis/alonso) and Vlad Jr. in Update was a big one at the time it came out.

I'm fairly certain the S2 purple were not as hard to find because they came in blister packs at Meijer stores, but the '19 Update purple may only have come in the power cube configuration, which seemed to be harder to find and they cost a lot more.

Here's an image from an old sold listing for S2 blister packs from Meijer advertising the purple parallel:



Similarly, the Walgreens parallels were sold in hanger boxes at Walgreens...but for some releases, there was nothing on the packaging that said yellow parallels were included. It was the SKU that identified the different hanger boxes if the packaging didn't indicate yellows (like 2020 Series 1, Walgreens, Walmart, and Target all had different SKUs I believe). And sometimes Walgreens stores would get the 'standard' hanger boxes and not the ones with yellow parallels ().

2019 S1 I don't think mentioned it on the box, 2019 Update did, 2020 S1 did not (SKU ending -83 as I recall), 2020 S2 did...I think.

Just arrived today. 2004 us spx baseball and 2001 Topps archives reserve baseball. Been looking for the archives reserve for a while. One auto baseball included and the checklist was only 30 names which includes Mays/Ryan/Yaz/Jackson, etc. I really love collecting the early 2000 baseball boxes where you could get an autographed baseball or hat.

I love the Archives! You might have sold me on picking up one myself. I’m trying to focus on earlier releases that have chances of retired HOF autos or pieces of memorabilia. Just trying to eliminate those that have expired redemptions or exchanges.

This brings up an interesting point ( IMO ). Wax has an initial value when released and X number of years after that, mostly based on the singles market trickling over from the checklist, like you mentioned ^

… but at some point, the boxes get old enough and enough get opened that the rarity starts to take over as the key to its value, exceeding the what’s possibly inside value. I think 2011 Topps Update is at that point —— if so, the singles from the checklist could decline, but the box still hold its value due to the rarity factor. It can get to the point that while the singles go down, the box actually goes up - exciting when that happens !

I want to be more selective with what I pick up. Instead of grabbing random hobby boxes/mega boxes, I really want to stick with stuff I believe has legitimate, long-term value. As one poster also commented, I'd love to get some 2018 stuff. I'm trying to decide which is the best to pick up: Chrome, Update or Update Chrome. Any suggestions from others would be appreciated!

I have all three and I love them all.

What I like about update and chrome update is that they include Soto, who I think will have a monster year.


Also, not as popular but a little cheaper, heritage high and archives include all three (Acuna auto was a redemption in Heritage high, pulled one myself)
