As a collector of rare 90s inserts, it drives me crazy to think cards like the 24kt golds in this product are just sitting in boxes like this.

Haha, definitely more cost effective to just buy the 24K inserts of the specific player you want.
I removed the images from the original post because they uploaded in a super annoying way, at least to my web browser. Does anyone think the shrink wrap looks suspect at all? Anyone have any advice on how to properly vet wrapped boxes from this era?
I’m not too concerned on this particular box but just wanted to pick the brains of some experienced unopened collectors here with deeper pockets than mine, on what to watch out for.

The shrink wrap looks fine to me. I put together a group break of 90s boxes a few years ago, including 99 Fleer Brilliants. Your box is what I would expect.

I think you should be fine. I have a few Fleer boxes with a "sloppy" seal on the back but they have been legit. Plus, like you said, it's a relatively low end box (was upon release, going up now)


In my experience, The higher end Upper Deck boxes need to be scrutinized carefully, especially the tins from 2004-06'

Nice! 2005 Reflections was loaded. I was picking them up at $39-$43 back in the day. It didn't get much love out of the gate. I pulled a dual auto/patch of Ripken/Jeter 05/25. I was screaming and running around the kitchen table like I lost my mind! haha, good times. Lots of Griffey, Cabrera, Ortiz, Pujols, etc.

@blackbears86 those are some nice ‘05 boxes! You have good taste in modern. Only recently have I ventured into the 96-2001 range and I know almost nothing about 2001-2012. I’ve been perusing the many pages of this thread to try to bring myself up to speed.

Side note, I am a umaine grad class of ‘08. If you were born in ‘86 then we were probably in the same class. I still live in Maine too, I think I may have already mentioned that somewhere.

I'm a big fan of 2004-06 baseball. To me this was the peak of baseball card production. Fleer/Donruss/playoff/UD and Topps all had amazing products that had actual game used cards and auto's of the big legends of the game.

1985 Topps Baseball.

One of my favorite players growing up “Rocket”Roger Rc and McGwire OLY!

Quick story-I remember getting one of those baseball card starter kits back in 1987-88. One card that stood out was a Don Mattingly 87 Topps All Star card along with those All-Time Greats green bordered cards, and I think I even had the Ty Cobb. Didn’t fully comprehend the Beckett back then but knew later on Mattingly was the card to have and then I saw pics of those vintage reprints, so I definitely remember being excited like luck was on my side …But point is I will forever remember this 1985 design as there were definitely a lot more of these mixed in. And probably commons at that!
