These days, for any product, I'm only after 1-2 cards (serial numbered & color matched, maybe auto'd) for my PC player. There could be 20-40 parallels and I'll ignore 95% of them, doesn't matter to me. So, having lots of products does not bother people like me because I then get 8-10 PC cards from that year's products.

After about the 4th or 5th year of a PC player, I'll curtail my purchases of that player from that point forward unless the player wins more championships or breaks records. After about 40-50 cards collected for my PC player, its diminishing returns for me. That point where you have quenched your collecting thirst for a PC player is different for everyone, but I bet one exists for most everyone. Then its on to the next PC.

So having lots of products with lots of parallels are good things for the hobby, IMO. Gives collectors more varieties to collect and create their displays with.

There are way too many products now, so I've reduced how much I'm buying, plus prices got a bit insane.

It is past the point of ridiculous. Only saving grace is that there are lots of opportunities to pick up singles. For the price of one box of Chronicles, I was able to pick up autos of Vidic, Petit, Shevchenko, Inzaghi, Busquets, and Lineker.

Seems like a waste of time and energy. Do kids in Europe play this like pokemon or something?

Don't know....maybe they've run out of Europa League players that nobody has heard of

Their big mistake with this was not to include more retired superstars....

I wouldn't even put it in four digits personally. MLS cards (and US cards/players) in general are insanely priced outside of base. I mean, you're putting him almost in the sphere of the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Phil Foden and Vinicius Jr.

Paxten is a nice looking talent, but a bit-part player for club and the US U-20's.. plus he's 19 this year, which isn't young in soccer terms. He should be playing 80-90mins week in week out by now. (Gavi is 17 and playing regularly, Pedri was 16, Foden 17 and Vini was also 16)

I get the US Soccer fan hype, and he's the shiny new thing on the seemingly never-ending conveyor belt of new shiny new things surrounding the USMNT like Dyke, Hoppe, Clark, Cowell, Gioacchini and Pepi, but it's a little out of hand - that price has world cups and multiple ballon d'ors priced in!

I sold same card raw for $3000 to a huge US collector about 9 months ago. Prices are insane for cards. Great players are sold for penny on the dollar, while unproven kids go for insane prices.

I've been opening MLS packs since the 1998 Upper Deck set and while I don't do high end and collected on/off since 1998, one trend seems to be that rare cards (especially MLS specific releases) go into collections and they will never see the light of day again.

But the price for this Paxten is nuts. Then again, some hardcore youth USMNT followers swear he will be better than Brendan (or at least offer more as a pure attacker) but will take longer to develop since he's smaller and not as physically mature at the same age.

Hello all,

I am just curious if anyone has any soccer specific feedback for the NSCC? All of the other forums have lots of reports, pickups and state of the market thoughts, but I have seen nothing here. It would be great if anyone who attended could let those of us who could not make it know things looked, and any deals/pickups!

Regards

I was at the National. Saw less soccer this year than last year. Some really nice modern stuff from a few guys, but that was really it. Outside of the few guys who regularly break soccer, there was very little variety amongst those who did have soccer. Every case was Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Haaland, Neymar, Beckham and Pulisic. Almost nothing prior to 2014. And little chance of picking up a missing piece you might have been looking for.

That doesn't surprise me. Outside of the ultra-mega cards, there doesn't feel like there's any hype at all at the moment around soccer. When Obsidian came out just recently, I was able to pick up 60 or 70 singles all for no more than $1, 2, 3 each - and these weren't scrubs - I'm talking <50 numbered patches and the like. That's a bit incredible to me, for a mid-high end product.

This Forum probably gets 3 or 4 posts a day. I think only the MMA forum is quieter.

Those expecting a World Cup bonanza are in for a grave shock in my opinion.

My buying habits have changed dramatically. There's just way way way way way too much stuff. It's overwhelming and trying to keep on top of it all feels like sinking in quicksand. I've completely stopped bothering trying to keep up with Basketball, and now just exclusively look for numbered rookie year Morant, and that's it. Baseball I have completely given up on - that #@#@#@#@ is crazy AF... and American Football? How many houses am I supposed to mortgage to keep up with that?

Watching people trying to squeeze the last cent out of garbage is starting to make me feel a bit nauseous. The constant grift is tiring. Gaslighting people with turd like Treble for example, gougers trying to monetize and maximise toddlers card games like Match Attax, and the big two more than happy to oblige with more and more sets of flaming poop in a box. There's an energy crisis gripping Europe - there's one good thing that comes from all of this worthless dirge - they go up beautifully in a wood burner.

Yep- all singles for me now. The one positive with all the new sets is that there are some opportunities to pick up cards of retired players who did not have many cards previously.

Try hockey Yay, hobby boxes are cheap and base paper rookies sell for $100-$300 right away.
